We are currently seeking a Traffic Engineer to join our team at the Reston, VA office. As part of our expanding Advanced Mobility Systems group, you’ll collaborate with transportation planners, data analysts, traffic engineers, ITS designers, and operations specialists who bring diverse talents and extensive experience. Your role will involve contributing to transportation planning initiatives and conducting studies to enhance traffic safety and operational efficiency for intersections, freeways, and arterial corridors.

In this role, you will need a solid understanding of traffic analysis, intersection signal timing, and design and operations. Your technical expertise will come into play as you work with tools like Synchro, VISSIM, VISUM, HCS, Sidra, or related software to reduce congestion. You will be developing multi-modal solutions to enhance roadway facilities for bicyclists, pedestrians, and transit users of all ages and abilities. As a valued team member, you’ll also contribute to exciting and forward-thinking transportation technology projects involving data analytics, machine learning, and AI, all aimed at meeting the evolving needs of our clients.

Collecting traffic data such as counts, travel times, signal timings and other data required for transportation planning and traffic engineering studies.

Job responsibilities may include:

  • Performing data analysis using traffic analysis tools and techniques including Synchro, VISSIM, VISUM, Cube, Free VAL, HCM etc.

  • Conducting traffic engineering studies such as crash analysis, signal timing optimizations, traffic capacity analysis, work zone analysis, maintenance of traffic (MOT) analysis, temporary traffic control plans, detour plans etc.

  • Creating multi-modal transportation simulation models to analyze alternative transportation improvement options and evaluating their performance.

  • Preparing technical memorandums and reports summarizing study assumptions, data collection, analysis methodology, results, and conclusions.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering

  • Experience microsimulation modeling tools including VISSIM and Synchro.

  • Knowledge and experience with Highway Capacity Manual methodologies for roadway level of service (LOS) analysis.

  • Knowledge of GIS, Data Analytics and Tools including R, Tableau and ArcGIS.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently.

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with the ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license in 2-3 years.

Ideally you'll also have:

  • 1-3 years' experience in a traffic engineering
