Jacobs Technology provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and Launch Services programs.

This internship will allow participants an opportunity to work here at Kennedy Space Center with the Artemis Campaign. You've been given an opportunity to help serve our country abroad, now help humanity reach the stars and beyond.

Qualifications - Internal

  • To have served at least 180 days in any of the U.S. Armed Forces

  • To be within 180 days of separation or retirement from any of the U.S. Armed Forces (you may start your application prior to the 180 days)

  • Must be on track to receive an Honorable Discharge

  • Must have taken any service TAPS/TGPS

  • Must have attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months

  • Must have command approval to participate in the DoD SkillBridge program

  • Driver's License with no major infractions

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

This position will spend a substantial amount of time performing safety sensitive labor or services. Due to the nature of the job, passing a Fitness for Duty testing is required to ensure candidates for this position are physically and functionally fit to perform the essential physical work functions of this safety sensitive position without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of themselves or others.

The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements.

Some tools and testing may include:

  • Confined Space

  • Pyro

  • Hazardous Waste Handling

  • Heavy Equipment operating

  • Safety Harness, and more.

Here’s what you’ll need :

In addition to the qualifications listed above, you'll also need to be able to mee these qualifications as well:

Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent, technical training in the applicable area of expertise, and required certifications and 2 years of related experience and technical training and certification as required across all areas of industry accepted disciplines for the technical support to aerospace systems and equipment.

  • Must be able to follow work instructions, interpret engineer drawings, and follow stringent work area rules and safety protocols.

  • Must be able to work all shifts and a reasonable amount of overtime with limited prior notification.

  • Must have excellent communication skills.

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to work at heights and confined spaces.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

  • Must be able to support all shifts, work at various facilities, and support multiple groups as directed by manager.

  • Experience with mechanical, electrical or high energy systems (Ex. High pressure pneumatics/hydraulics, cryogenics, hypergolic, etc) is desirable.

  • Experience in aviation or aerospace is advantageous.

  • Experience within Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) is preferred.

Essential Functions

Physical Requirements

  • Duties may include the handling of hazardous waste and transportation of hazardous waste (if qualified).

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds

  • Ability to distinguish between colors (ex: blue and green wires)

  • Ability to comply with safety policies and compliance

  • Ability to use limbs with 90% range

  • Must use safety protective equipment where required

  • Must be able to climb ladders, towers and stairs

  • Will require physical exertion in climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, carrying, or critical work in cramped quarters.

Work Environment

  • All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.

  • Work will mainly performed in an inside environment, but fieldwork can be a combination of inside and outside depending on the project.

  • Working at heights is required and in confined spaces may be required.

  • Work among equipment and stations in support of launches.

Equipment and Machines: including, but not limited to:

  • Operate and maintain handling equipment such as forklifts (up to 20K) and other area specific Material Handling Equipment.

  • Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance.

  • Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine and other office equipment including desk supplies.

Attendance

  • Must be dependable and punctual.

  • Depends on schedule and availability of participant.

Other Essential Functions

  • US Citizenship required.

  • Ability to obtain certifications required for operating Material Handling Equipment.

  • Requires the ability to interact effectively with co-workers and managers.

  • Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication.

  • Government security clearance may be required in the future.

  • Must pass a federal background investigation.

  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

  • Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.

  • Must pass all applicable physicals required for this position

  • Must possess a valid Florida Class D motor vehicle license.
