With a recent infusion of funds to plan, design, and construct new transportation infrastructure, cities and private stakeholders are moving quickly to identify solutions that enhance the safety, mobility, and liveability of communities large and small. Aging infrastructure and robust population growth has strained many transportation networks in and beyond the existing transportation system. Coupled with today’s challenge to combat the climate crisis and decarbonize rapidly, Jacobs is looking to hire a collaborative Transportation Planner to join our regional Advanced Mobility Group. As a subset of our Advanced Mobility Group, the Transportation Planners on our team work on innovative planning projects alongside traffic/ITS engineers, environmental engineers and planners and sustainability and resiliency experts with a wide variety of talent and experience.

We are looking for someone to work as part of our team to deliver a range of statewide and multi-modal transportation planning projects with an ability to analyze large datasets and create visualizations. The candidate will work under the direction of a project manager or senior planner to conduct research, studies, prepare reports, advise on feasibility of strategic plans, and perform limited project management functions when necessary.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the Advanced Mobility Group to deliver a range of transportation planning and engineering projects.

  • Prepare transportation reports and plans based on project analyses and assessments to support decisions on transportation systems, policies, and standards.

  • Coordinate and attend project meetings with clients, public officials, engineers, planners, and transportation system users, including presentation development and delivery.

  • Collect and analyze data, and prepare studies to support decisions on transportation systems, policies, and standards.

  • Fuse multiple datasets and create dashboards to extract insights and propose recommendations.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or a related field.

  • Ability to utilize computer systems as a resource to effectively manage projects.

  • Excellent technical writing with the ability to develop work plans and document technical discussions.

  • Must keep current in the planning specialty through continuing education.

  • Resourceful, curious, and self-directed.

  • Experience with GIS

  • Ability to deal with large datasets and sort through large amounts of data

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

  • Ability to gain AICP certification within 4 years.

  • Familiarity with complete streets and bike/ped planning.

  • Experience working with departments of transportation, planning or transit agencies.

  • Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography or related field.

  • Ability to create midblock section drawings and other visuals for proposals and projects.
