As a member of our highly qualified Bridge/Structure Design Team, you will have the chance to work on a wide variety of highway and rail bridge projects of varying size and complexity. Working with other team members, you will utilize your skills to support and lead design teams on conceptual studies, preliminary engineering, final design, and construction support services in connection with a wide range of bridge and structural projects.

This position involves the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering design tasks for bridge projects from conceptual design to final design.

  • Develop plans, specifications, cost estimates, and final bid packages.

  • Have a strong working knowledge of bridge design software tools.

  • Perform field site visits, bridge/structural inspections, and construction inspections as required.

  • Review of construction submittals and requests for information (RFI’s).

  • Have a positive team-oriented attitude.

  • Mentor and develop junior staff while providing valuable input into design Best Practices.

  • Lead and coordinate design activities between staff, subcontractors, and clients

  • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop recommendations for corrective action.

  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance.

  • Coordinate quality control and safety with internal and external technical and support staff.

  • Prepare cost proposals

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelor of Science in civil/structural engineering is required.

  • Must have a Professional Engineering License, preferably in Pennsylvania.

  • Minimum of 5 years bridge design experience

  • Must have experience with Microstation or AutoCAD.

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills for interactions with coworkers and clients.

  • PennDOT, PTPK, DelDOT, SEPTA, DRPA project experience is preferred.

  • Active involvement in local engineering societies is preferred.

  • Strong time management skills and attention to detail. Ability to perform work with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to coordinate work with less experienced engineers in the Jacobs office.
