We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly-motivated team member to work on storm water assignments to include storm drainage analysis and design, cross drainage hydraulic analysis and design, storm water management and BMP’s designs and requirements, H&H watershed flood studies, erosion control, quantity and cost estimates, preparation of technical reports and memorandum, and preparation of construction plans, estimates, and specifications as required.

You'll work in a team environment with other project engineers on the detailed enclosed storm drainage analysis and design for urban and rural water resource projects is essential. You'll conduct drainage analysis and design per the requirements of the project and various public agencies such as VDOT, DEQ, and local counties and cities. You'll lead the efforts in the preparation of contract drainage/ BMP’s drawings, specifications, and estimates along with preparing projects specific drainage /BMP’s hydraulic reports and technical memorandum. Share your expertise in hydraulic analysis for cross drainage structures and incorporate the results in the design with other disciplines.

Here's what you’ll be doing:

  • Lead, manage or participate in all phases of the design and tendering of Water Resources projects, including, conventional stormwater management, infrastructure, roadway/highway surface drainage systems, municipal storm sewers, stormwater management/ BMP’s facilities.

  • Support and collaborate with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects and pursuits with water resources components.

  • Conduct preliminary engineering by analyzing data, performing calculations, and evaluating options to develop the best solution and make recommendation.

  • Plan and design projects, following company, construction, and government standards, using design software, and drawing resources.

  • Autonomously evaluate and improve the selection and/or modification of standard techniques, procedures, criteria and systems to efficiently meet project goals.

  • Technical writing, reviewing, and providing clear, concise input to investigations, memorandums, or solutions reports.

  • Prepare drawings and specifications as well as changes to drawings based on engineering staff and supervisor markups, edits, QA/QC comments and/or suggestions.

  • Communicate and coordinate information with other engineering disciplines and company offices.

  • Review work performed by others for adequacy on completion.

  • Attend project meetings, coordinate work with project team members, supervisor/client.

  • Interface directly with our clients.

  • Mentor and support junior staff in the local and regional water group.

  • Participate in professional organizations for marketing, industry recognition, networking, and building the Jacobs brand.

  • Position may include supervision of one or more project engineers as a task manager on a large project, or as a project manager of small projects.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering.

  • 5 years of design experience. Any project management experience is a bonus.

  • Proficient in the full range of design activities including preparation of functional and detailed design drawings and reports, contract document preparation and tendering.

  • Design of surface drainage systems, storm water management measures, including, but not limited to hydrology, hydraulics and water quality treatment performance.

  • Design and specifications for drainage and stormwater management infrastructures.

  • Demonstrable experience with technical report writing. Experience with Environmental Assessment is a bonus.

Ideally, Here’s What You’ll Also Have:

  • PE license, or have the ability obtain within six months of hire.

  • Ability to efficiently utilize time in executing assigned tasks accurately and within schedule.

  • Thorough knowledge of localities and state review process and standards for permitting and approvals, including legislation, design standards and criteria, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to storm water services.

  • Experience with industry standard hydraulic/ hydrologic tools/ models, including, but not limited to OpenRoads, PCSWMM, GeoPAK, HEC-RAS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and HY-8.

  • Proficient knowledge in common desktop applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams,etc.).
