Job Description:

Independently performs testing of electrical power generation and distribution equipment that may sometimes not be completely standardized or prescribed. Selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents. Receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor, engineer, or shift/site leader, as needed; performs recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. Performs one or a combination of such typical duties as: Proper power up/shut down of load bank operational procedures, set up of voltage and frequency configurations and fault resets, calculations of percentage loads at 25/50/75/100%, connecting 3 phase and single phase power, and set up and conduct testing for 120/208 V and 416 V voltage ratings. Capable of establishing circuit interrupter, maximum power, fuel consumption, and other specialized tests with minimal guidance from higher level personnel, and processes the data in accordance with well-defined methods and designated formulas. Operates and transfers information from ADMAS data acquisition equipment without guidance in support of reliability and performance testing of electrical power generation and distribution equipment. Analyzes and presents various test data in accordance with established methods, with minimal review by higher level personnel or government engineer. Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions; independently for routine faults, under the direction of senior technical personnel for non-routine matters. Conducts specific test or experimental procedures which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement. Identifies errors or inconsistencies. Develops information concerning previous operational failures and modifications. Uses judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.

Here’s What You’ll Need:


5 yrs. applicable experience; or at least 60 credit hours or an Associate’s Degree and 3 yrs. applicable experience; or 30 credit hours and 4 yrs. applicable experience; or completion of a formal training program and 3 yrs. applicable experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree and 1 yr. applicable experience.

Essential Functions Form:


May require sitting in front of a computer for extended periods of time (up to 50%). The ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, reach above shoulder level and climb into or under a vehicle is required (up to 50%). Walking a minimum of 50 yards over rough terrain is required (up to 25%). The ability to push and pull as well as lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required (up to 50%).


Work environment may be mostly outside depending on the task. The ability to work in outside field conditions that include hot and cold extreme temperatures and other outdoor climatic conditions is required (up to 50%). Must be able to work in areas where only portable restroom facilities are available (up to 50%). Work environment may be fast-paced and require work under pressure to meet deadlines associated with the completion of a task. Position will require multiple task efforts.

Work may require being assigned to shift work (up to 90%).


Independently conducts test and evaluations using computer acquisition equipment, general electrical equipment, load banks, and power generation equipment. Work will also involve the use of hand and power tools. Uses a variety of standard references, guides, and precedents to obtain needed information. Work may require being around moving machinery and high voltage equipment. Work may require driving auto equipment, forklifts, skid loaders, as well as other equipment.


Attendance is critical at all times during normal duty hours. Work outside of normal duty hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required with as little as one-hour advance notice. Travel may be required (up to 5%).


Must be able to communicate effectively. Must be able to obtain an interim secret security clearance in order to gain access to required areas, networks and systems within thirty (30) days of date of your offer letter. Must be able to obtain and retain a secret security clearance. Must be able to provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Must be able to obtain and retain unescorted access to work areas. May be subject to hearing tests and other physicals or exams if required or designated by the COR. May be subject to exposure to noise, vibration, temperature extremes, lead, high voltage, petroleum, oil, lubricants, dusts, and solvents. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required. Must have a valid driver’s license and personal transportation for the purpose of moving around the proving ground to accomplish job functions and in order to operate a rental vehicle if and when travel is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a military driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
