Business Analyst


Jacobs is seeking a Business Analyst to join our team in Alexandria, VA.

  • The Business Analyst will be responsible for interacting with the application team or across multiple application teams and with clients on a daily basis to perform functional & technical requirements analysis, documentation, and validation for new and existing software development.

  • Will be involved in all aspects of the software development lifecycle as changes and enhancements to the system are implemented, and will create new or update existing user stories, acceptance criteria, wireframes, and other supporting documentation.

  • This individual will also assist in the preparation of weekly status reports and presenting status updates to the team and client.

  • As needed, the Business Analyst will help product owners prioritize development tasks and stories, facilitate scrum ceremonies, remove team impediments, and coordinate with other scrum teams to deliver high quality products.


  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.

  • Candidate must have 6 years of relevant requirements/systems analyst experience and a Bachelors degree. Commensurate experience for education.

  • Experience conducting current-state and target state analysis and design for software applications.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) with a demonstrated ability to develop presentation materials, lead team meetings, and facilitate requirements gathering sessions involving multiple stakeholders from various organizations.

  • Knowledge of Software Development Agile Frameworks, including Scaled Agile, Scrum and Kanban

  • Strong background in the development of documentation such as: System Requirements, Use Cases (Gherkin method preferred), Acceptance Criteria, Screen and User Interface designs (wireframes), Front End Test Documentation (UAT/Sprint Review), User Guides/Online Help documentation, Release Notes, End User Communication and Training materials.

  • Prior experience on a successful scrum team, including experience facilitating sprint ceremonies such as sprint, planning, backlog refinement, demos, retrospectives, etc.

  • Experience analyzing disparate systems to identify gaps and potential impacts.

  • Must be able to set realistic client expectations and deliver at or above those expectations. Must be detail oriented and proactive.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite: Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, SharePoint; Adobe Online Help Tools

  • Must have experience using Jira and Confluence for requirements documentation; IBM Rational Suite, including ClearQuest

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a scrum master or team lead a plus

  • Demonstrated experience/understanding of requirements gathering and analyzing data to determine solutions for issues or questions and then make recommendations to product owners based on findings.

Most work will be done at a desk or computer.

Work Environment:

General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Equipment & Machines:

General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.


Attendance is critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.

Must be able to interface with individuals at all levels of the organization both verbally and in writing. Must be well-organized with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Must be willing to travel as needed. Must take and pass a drug test and background check as well as a motor vehicle records check. Must be a US citizen.
