Business Analyst


Jacobs has an opening for a Business Analyst for the Alexandria, VA office. Duties will include:

  • Interacting across the team and with clients daily to gather requirements for a large internal application project.

  • Creation of new requirements and updating existing requirements and documentation.

  • Being involved in all aspects of the software development lifecycle as changes and enhancements to the system are defined and implemented.

  • May assist with several of the project management responsibilities.

  • Lead and facilitate requirement gathering sessions involving multiple stakeholders from various organizations.

  • Serve as a liaison between the development and testing team to clarify requirements, confirm system behavior and escalate any issues to the client.


  • Must have strong verbal and written communications skills and be able to independently author client facing deliverables as well as facilitate meetings with clients and business customers

  • 5-7 years of experience with requirements gathering and analyzing data to determine solutions for issues or questions and able to make recommendations to clients based on findings

  • 2-3 years of experience working with Agile methodology in an iterative, fast-paced development environment

  • Candidate should be experienced with agile tools such as JIRA and Confluence

  • Experience with requirements under an Agile methodology including authoring of Epics, User Stories and Acceptance Criteria

  • Must have experience working with testers to develop test cases for requirements scenario and defining requirements traceability

  • Experience preparing end user training documentation such as user guides or FAQs

  • Must be very eager to help with all aspects of the software development cycle and must be a self-starter

  • Must be willing to "pitch in" on any activity, while remaining flexible with continually changing priorities

  • Must be able to juggle competing priorities, multi-task, and continue to meet all deadlines

  • Must be able to set realistic client expectations and deliver at or above those expectations.

  • Must be detail oriented and proactive

Essential Functions:

Physical Requirements:

Most work will be done at a desk or computer.

Work Environment:

General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Equipment & Machines:

General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.


Attendance is critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.

Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.

Must be able to interface with individuals at all levels of the organization both verbally and in writing. Must be well-organized with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Must be willing to travel as needed. Must take and pass a drug test and background check as well as a motor vehicle records check. Must be a US citizen.
