Our team is experiencing exciting growth within our established practice and we have a need for a new Construction Inspector to join our team in our Mid-town Atlanta, GA office.
This is a general level technical work supporting higher level technicians and engineers in roadway and structure construction, inspection and testing. Involves a significant amount of decision making and use of judgement and may include providing direction to subordinates or contractors.
Perform inspections of roadways and structure construction processes and materials to assure compliance with construction contract; perform moderately complex inspections; or supervise other inspectors conducting routine and standardized inspections.
Read, and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.
Prepare reports and pay estimates.
Inspecting asphalt and concrete for acceptable materials & mix; pavement for property spreading, rolling, depth, alignment and compaction; roadways and structures for conformance to plans and specifications; structural materials and members; placement of culverts; structural operations such as foundation excavation; placement of piling, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete and backfill; and traffic control and erosion control devices.
Perform contract documentation duties, which includes field measurements.
High School Diploma or GED and 18 months of progressive transportation technician experience; or equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in highway construction.
Skilled in drafting and use of calculators and computers.
Ability to read, interpret, and explain construction plans, contract provisions, specifications and inspection procedures.
Must have a Valid Driver's License
Certifications: GDOT WECS, GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification, GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control). Certifications from other agencies or states may possible be substituted.
Essential Functions: Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
