We are looking for a Community Outreach & Project Communications Specialist to expand client stakeholder engagement offerings in Atlanta, GA. The successful candidate will work closely with our project teams to create clear, concise, stakeholder content and collateral. The Communications Professional will engage and inform various stakeholders in communities impacted through transformational infrastructure projects.
Emphasis will be communications specific to stakeholder engagement using the RPIE communications process (Research, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation). This requires the ability to identify tactics and strategies to reach targeted audiences in a cost-effective way with messages that resonate and potentially impact behavior. Essential to the role is an aptitude for and comfort with learning about technical issues primarily as they relate to water resource management, natural gas, transportation, other infrastructure, municipal services, etc. as well as a demonstrated ability to set priorities, take initiative, and work both independently and collaboratively to support different clients and project teams.
Duties include developing public-friendly content around technical issues; producing and distributing outreach materials; directing visual media support (graphics, animations, videos, etc.) or other service providers (such as printers, translators, etc.), needed to ensure efficient project delivery; coordinating internally across other service areas to assist with projects requiring a communications component; engaging with elected and public officials; and performing tasks within defined budgets and hours.
Duties may also include assisting with facilitation of citizen groups; engaging with the media; performing business development functions at conferences and other client interface opportunities; assisting in responding to RFPs for communication-related projects including writing and editing proposal content; and presenting at technical conferences.
Duties will be performed both in the office and at client sites. Some travel may be required and could involve temporary assignments.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Requirements:
At least 4-6 years of communications experience, writing/editing/proofreading experience
Experience writing for public consumption and achieving the right “voice” based on client, as well as editing self-generated or other documents for clarity (advanced experience with AP, Chicago, and/or MLA Styles)
MS Word and PowerPoint skills; experience with MS Excel
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Effective active listening skills
Solid research skills, including the use of maps and or GIS platforms to inform outreach planning
Strong organizational and time-management skills; works well under tight deadlines and stressful situations; agile and nimble in responding to requests
Familiarity with digital and social media strategies, posting requirements/protocols, and analytics tools
Some experience and/or awareness of best practices in crisis communications and change management communications
Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment while managing multiple tasks
Pleasant, approachable demeanor for engaging clients and the public
BA degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related discipline
Based in the Atlanta area (preferred)
Additional Skills and Capabilities:
Demonstrated experience and success working with state/local government entities or other public sector companies / agencies
Experience in media planning, analytics analysis, and social media marketing
InDesign proficiency or other graphic skills
