The Environmental Department located in midtown Atlanta, GA is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to join our dynamic group and support our growing business needs. The successful candidate would be experienced in ecological field studies including stream/wetland delineations and protected species investigations in support of linear transportation and utility line projects. The ideal candidate would also be familiar with GDOT environmental reporting requirements and state/federal environmental permitting.

Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:

  • Interprets maps, land use plans, aerial photographs, topographic maps, construction plans, etc. for use in environmental analysis

  • Prepares documentation for preliminary data requests from agencies and public sources of environmental data

  • Calibrates and maintains field equipment

  • Conducts biological field studies including wetland delineations, stream classifications, and protected species investigations

  • Collects, organizes, and maintains field data

  • Converts GPS data into GIS and CADD software platforms, and prepares maps/figures in accordance to various document requirements

  • Coordinates internally to obtain baseline data and deliver technical reports in accordance to project timelines

  • Prepares GDOT ecology documentation including Ecology Resource Survey Reports, Ecology Assessment of Effects Reports, Protected Species Survey Reports, and technical memorandums.

  • Prepares Clean Water Act (Section 404) Permit applications and Stream Buffer Variance applications

  • Follows company safety standards

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of professional consulting experience on environmental permits or wetland projects

  • Previous professional experience working with GDOT

  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental sciences, biology, ecology, or wildlife management

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe, ArcMap, and Trimble Pathfinder

  • Ability to physically navigate project sites and field work

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Master’s Degree in environmental science, biology, ecology or wildlife management
