The Jacobs-led team will serve as MARTA's CPMO Supplemental Services Consultant and manage the construction aspects. A joint venture between Jacobs and H. J. Russell & Company was selected to support the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) as it embarks on its expansion program. This position will be hired through the Joint Venture Subconsultant Program versus Jacobs. Please note that sponsorship is not available for this position.

Summary of Position:

The Senior Specification Writer will be responsible for the analysis of drawings, specifications, and standards. In addition, they will create a detailed material list and drawings of the floor plan, which complies with MARTA’s standards.

The Senior Specification Writer prepares technical specifications and Engineering Change Orders for components, materials, and processes for purchased items using technical data provided by the Component Engineer, adheres to Configuration Management procedures about documentation release and revision, and adheres to guidelines as established through the Component Engineering Specification Writer functional team to ensure consistent documentation practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review architectural design drawings to identify scope and content for specifications at various stages of the design project, including Preliminary Project Descriptions, Outline Specifications, Design and Construction Specifications/ Project Specific Specifications, Building Permit Submissions, Bid / Contract Specifications

  • Develop project specifications.

  • Could you collaborate with the project team to make sure that specifications, drawings, and schedules are coordinated?

  • Attend client and sub-consultant meetings as needed.

  • Assist design teams in the selection/identification of materials, products, finishes, and installation consistent with the project.

  • Prepare written technical specifications consistent with industry standards and Client requirements using MasterSpec guide specifications, BSD Speclink, client guide specifications, SpecsIntact specifications, and other specification systems.

  • Coordinate contents/ volumes of each Project Manual; prepare contract documents from schematic concept design through final design while ensuring they meet internal quality standards, external design and construction codes, and reference standards.

  • Assess requirements for the project and work with the Project Manager(s), Project Architects, Interior Designers, and architectural technicians/technologists to determine and coordinate the scope(s) of the work

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Building Construction, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • Certification or CDT certification with active membership in the Construction Specification Institute (CSI)

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • The Senior Specification Writer must have 7 years of producing architectural design documents with a minimum of 3 years of experience responsible for project manuals—knowledge of Specification Software: MasterSpec, SpecLink, or SpecsIntact, with an emphasis on Speclink.

  • Rail transit experience preferred, along with proficient knowledge of various PC applications.
