Jacobs is seeking a Highway Design Engineer to assist in program management for our General Engineering Consultant (GEC) contract. Responsible to monitor other program consultants and coordinate program-level direction and communicate consistently and proactively across many stakeholders. Those projects include urban and rural roadway design, expressway and interchange design, signalization, hydraulics and hydrology, access management and roadside grading, drainage and safety improvements.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee and coordinate work involving the preparation of roadway and highway design using local (State, County or City) or AASHTO standards at both conceptual and final design levels.
Coordination with all complimentary disciplines (roadway, drainage, structural, traffic, public involvement and environmental), supervision of roadway and planning design tasks and perform plan quality reviews.
Oversee the development of design and planning project schedules and budgets.
Supervise the design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with City, State, and County officials, and other outside agencies.
Review plans and prepare or review technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
Participate in contract bidding and administration; observes project action on site.
Assist with supervision of the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project.
Perform other duties assigned by a Project Engineer, Project Manager, or section lead
Review Cost Estimates / Opinions of Probably Construction Cost.
Coordination with environmental document commitments for highway improvement projects
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
Registration as a Professional Engineer, Texas PE registration preferred or the ability to become registered within 6 months of being hired.
At least 5 years of experience with GEOPAK
Technical experience preparing feasibility studies and reports
At least 5 years of progressive highway (TXDOT) design experience
At least 5 years of experience with Microstation
At least 5 years of progressive highway (TXDOT) design experience preferred
Outstanding oral and written communication skills
