In this position you will support the HSE Director for Life Sciences North America and the business’ need to address worker safety as early in the cost-influence curve as possible, through design phase influence. Interns are sought for projects in Elkton, VA, Conshocken, PA, and Holly Springs, NC. You’ll get an introduction to the Life Sciences industry via work with our world-class engineering professionals to start the mitigation of construction phase risks as early as concept design. Working alongside safety and engineering professionals experience will be obtained by being party to the process of integrating HSE early into a project’s cost influence curve – working to ensure HSE better influences our Design, Sales and Procurements processes, to set projects up for success. Insights will also be provided on field related HSE responsibilities: how to assess (HSE) qualified contractors prior to award, what it takes to setup and mobilize a project site, team, and logistics program successfully, how to prepare new vendors to work safely at our projects and assimilate and contribute to our BeyondZero Culture, and how to manage and support them in the safe delivery of quality projects to our clients. There will be regular meetings with fellow interns and Jacobs HSE staff members to hear their perspectives on the challenges and solutions needed to deliver injury free work.

While this assignment will be predominantly administrative in nature, opportunities to go to the field will be provided. With those field experiences comes the potential exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise is possible but will be risk assessed and mitigation strategies to comply with OSHA will be provided, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights, with fall protection systems in conformance with OSHA, and Jacobs/site requirements provided. Interaction, and problem solving with a cross section of construction site personnel from Jacobs engineering and construction team members, subcontractor foremen and craft, as well as owners reps to be anticipated.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • In pursuit of a Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Fire Safety, Construction Management, or other related majors with HSE and/or a risk mitigation background

  • Experience with Microsoft Products including Excel, Word, and Powerpoint

  • Ability to work on-site in Conshohocken, PA, Holly Springs, NC or Elkton, VA

  • Valid driver’s license with no major infractions

  • Lifting requirement: limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • 3.0 GPA At least a rising Senior

  • A previous internship related to your field of study
