Jacobs has an exciting long-term career opportunity for a Transit Safety Consultant to focus on helping our communities stay safely on the move.

This position will help lead systems safety programs for major transportation clients with a primary focus on public rail and transit clients. You will have the opportunity to work with senior public-sector transportation managers on complex safety, environmental and security related tasks and be a part of our team of experts in safety certification, quality assurance, transportation security and environmental compliance. This role involves working in office environments at the client site 2-3 days a week and at manufacturing facilities as required.

Required Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development of Safety and Security Programs in accordance with FTA and FRA guidelines, rules and regulations.

  • Assist in planning, organizing and controlling the work activities of an engineering function.

  • Review and approve engineering designs. Support the development of new methods or techniques.

  • Lead, or coordinate, work of staff and subcontractors to assist public sector clients in two or more of the following areas: Systems Safety Engineering; Fire/ Life Safety; Safety training; Safety certification; Emergency procedures, plans and drills; Environmental engineering/management studies; Risk management and acceptance.

  • Implement Quality Control processes and safety database improvement.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of system engineering and integration, from a safety and security perspective,

  • Assist senior level staff with plan design reviews, inspection reports audits, safety and security reviews testing and verification of the system readiness for revenue service

The base salary range for this position is $70,800 to $93,000. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelor’s degree OR, high school diploma plus 2-5 years’ experience in the areas of transportation safety oversight, security or both.

  • Hands-on experience in a transit safety and/or transit security environment

  • Transit Safety and Security Program (TSSP) Certified

  • Microsoft suite experience

Ideally you'll have:

  • Transit Safety experience with local clients including the Maryland Transportation Authority (MTA) and Washington Metro Area Transit Authority (WMATA)

  • Proven ability to work across multiple disciplines to coordinate work on behalf of public sector clients

  • Residence in the Baltimore, MD/Washington DC Area

  • Experience with safety and security programs, policies, standard operating procedures and/or emergency preparedness documents or programs to meet the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) requirements, with a focus on Safety Management Systems (SMS), System Safety Program Plan(s) (SSPP) and System Security Plan(s) (SSP).

  • Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program (PTSCTP) Certification

  • WSO-CSSD or other safety certification
