About the Opportunity

We are looking for mechanical design engineers with experience of mechanical propulsion train design including fluid system analysis and component specification/sizing justification. As part of this team, you will be responsible for the production of engineering documentation and technical specifications for specific systems, producing supporting calculations and undertaking design review. You will be part of a dedicated team responsible for critical aspects of submarine system design with hybrid working arrangements, there will be a requirement to attend site, factory acceptance testing and join regular virtual meetings. You will be responsible for executing engineering tasks or packages of work independently and as part of a wider team, delivering system/equipment documentation or modelling for verification and validation against the specified requirements documentation.

As the Secondary Propulsion Engineer, you will provide support to the Senior Propulsion Engineer and/or external specialists during development and analysis of platform propulsion systems for the future submarine programme. As the Secondary Propulsion Engineer, you will be involved in delivering systems and /or equipment, documentation and maturity appropriate to the engineering lifecycle.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Essential

  • BEng (Hons) or equivalent experience

  • Working towards professional registration

  • Design Focused

Desirable

  • A general understanding of the manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and testing processes used within the business.

  • Knowledge of the capabilities and the most appropriate uses of specialised analysis tools.

  • Knowledge / recognition of relevant engineering standards.

  • Sufficient experience to be able to identify all the issues involved in area of responsibility.
