About the opportunity:
We are currently recruiting HVAC Engineers at all levels with experience in the nuclear industry to join our Decommissioning Projects business. This role will be based in Birchwood, Warrington, Harwell, Oxfordshire or Scrabster, Caithness, but other locations are willingly considered.
The Decommissioning business provides an exciting mixture of consultancy, engineering and project management support, along with delivery of challenging decommissioning related EPC projects, to major clients in the UK across both the civil nuclear and defence industries, including Dounreay, Sellafield Limited, Urenco and Magnox. Overseas, we are delivering similarly interesting and exciting projects across the globe including projects for clients in Central & Eastern Europe and Japan.
We are very proud to have supported these clients for many years, and our partnering arrangements will enable us to sustain and enhance this support in the long-term. We also deliver a number of projects for other private companies and academia needing decommissioning solutions.
You will understand the importance of radiological ventilation and will be responsible for the design and implementation of HVAC and Building Service systems including design studies, optioneering, scheme and detail design. Including the preparation of design basis documents, ventilation flow sheets, calculations, equipment/ductwork sizing, containment systems, cascaded building ventilation, specification writing and engineering substantiation. You will also be responsible for taking these designs forward to manufacture installation and commissioning to provide defined outcomes for our customers.
You will support the Engineering Manager with delivery of the project works and is responsible for implementing Engineering Procedures and maintaining standards of technical quality.
Your responsibilities will be supporting various and diverse nuclear clients providing Front End Engineering Design through to full life cycle project requirements including:
Waste retrieval and treatment
Fuel and packaging
Key discipline contributor in Feasibility and Optioneering Studies.

Ideally you will hold a Degree, be a member of CIBSE and/or a Chartered Engineer or alternatively have extensive demonstrable experience in the field
Appropriate demonstrable experience in delivering nuclear HVAC design
Knowledge & Experience in the design and substantiation of nuclear ventilation systems
Knowledge of nuclear standards and site procedures
Demonstrable experience in a similar role/environment, with recent relevant exposure to work in the nuclear industry
Knowledge and experience of planning and estimating HVAC tasks along with providing progress and budgetary control to projects and teams
Experience in the production of ventilation system design deliverables, i.e. Ventilation Flow Diagrams (VFDs), Basis of Design (BoD), Plant Sizing Calculations (Heating/Cooling/Fan Sizing), Control Philosophy
Experience in the delivery of Equipment Specifications, Design Reports, Manufacturing specifications and commissioning procedures
