About the Opportunity

The Materials Science and Structural Integrity (MSSI) group are at the forefront of knowledge for our chosen field; leading research, solving critical client challenges and setting industry standards at our research facilities. Technical areas, include:

  • Materials Testing (e.g., corrosion, fracture mechanics, fatigue, etc.)

  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

  • Structural Analysis (failure investigations and material performance)

We are seeking our lead to enable a production orientated Laboratory approach within our world leading materials testing laboratories in Birchwood, Warrington. The Head of Laboratory Operations will report directly to the Group Director for our Materials Science and Structural Integrity business as part of the department’s leadership team.

You will be accountable for ensuring excellence of the materials laboratories, including:

  • Ensuring rig availability to ensure successful project execution.

  • Setting the maintenance and obsolescence strategy, ensuring stock is managed and controlled.

  • Working closely with the engineering teams for repairs and bringing new assets online.

  • Implementation consistent working processes across all rigs and laboratory equipment, including health and safety, setting to work and quality control.

  • Defining skills, training and qualification requirements for rig and equipment.

  • Measuring performance and implementing continuous improvement.

Here’s what you’ll need :

We are seeking candidates with the following attributes:

  • A business leader with line management expertise.

  • Production management experience.

  • Excellent relationship management skills.

  • Working knowledge of health and safety legislation.

  • Knowledge of asset management philosophies and systems an advantage.
