About the Opportunity As a result of an increasing portfolio of projects and desire to strengthen the mechanical engineering discipline within our Decommissioning and Regeneration Solutions business, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the team in Birchwood, Warrington.

You will be involved in EPC contracts for Effluent Treatment Plants, Waste Retrieval / Sorting and Segregation / Packaging and mechanical package integration across subcontractor scopes.

Being part of the Decommissioning and Regeneration Solutions business offers a unique opportunity to cultivate change and creativity in engineering, safety, and delivery solutions across some of the most complex industrial sites in the UK, if not the world.

We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic Senior Mechanical Engineer who would like to get involved in design from concept to completion, with an aptitude for problem solving and in developing less experienced mechanical discipline engineers and designers.

The role will likely involve the management and leadership of a small group of engineers to deliver required technical outputs to meet business need.

Responsibilities:

  • Work from customer/client requirements and specifications to develop and produce designs incorporating mechanical components to meet required technical outcomes.

  • Development of technical specifications to meet program and customer needs.

  • Apply engineering best practice to successfully deliver required technical outputs, including associated BIM and digital delivery elements.

  • Undertake, scrutinize, and approve engineering calculations and analyses to underpin design functionality and maintain safe operation of mechanical equipment.

  • Oversight of the production of engineering drawings to BS8888. Act as principal drawing and design checker/approver as required in line with internal design drawing process.

  • Provide engineering input and support to generation of bids and proposals including generation of resource and materials estimates needed to meet outputs.

  • Support development of team members and progression of engineering competency within the section, including development of career plans, annual objective setting and identification of training needs

  • Apply expertise to generate innovative and / or technically differentiated solutions to problems, to deliver added value for clients

  • Assist the development of the engineering elements of the project/task baseline scope, schedule and budget for multi-discipline delivery

We are seeking individuals with demonstrable experience in one or more of the following specialisms:

  • Process plant and pipework

  • Lifting (nuclear and non-nuclear)

  • Gloveboxes

  • Transport Containers

  • Welding / manufacturing (from design)

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Educated to degree level in mechanical engineering (or other relevant degree).

  • Professionally accredited to IEng/CEng or working towards this level of professional registration.

  • Knowledge of machining / fabrication / manufacturing processes.

  • Experience in delivering ‘Design for Manufacture’.

  • Knowledge of delivering against legislative, regulatory and company policy standards and procedures e.g. safety, quality, risk, security.

  • Proficient in detailed drawing production & checking to relevant drawing standards BS8888, BS5070 and BS EN 61082

  • Proficient in engineering calculations and verification.

  • Experience of using relevant software packages (Inventor/SolidWorks/AutoCAD/Vault packages).

  • Experience in delivering mechanical engineering and design solutions as part of a wider BIM solution.

  • Ability & desire to provide support and mentorship to junior engineers.
