About the Opportunity

Due to the growth within our Decommissioning and Regeneration Solutions business area we have an exciting opportunity for Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the team in Birchwood Warrington.

Being part of the Decommissioning and Regeneration Solutions business offers a unique opportunity to cultivate change and creativity in engineering, safety and delivery solutions across some of the most complex industrial sites in the UK, if not the world.

We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic Senior Mechanical Engineer who would like to get involved in design from concept to completion, with an aptitude for problem solving and developing mechanical discipline engineers and designers.

You will be joining a large existing team that clearly understands the different requirements for optioneering, solution inspired, design decommissioning, operating plant asset care, infrastructure and new builds.

By joining our team, you will be working with people from a wide range of technical disciplines to provide support to our mechanical engineering activities and deliver solutions to clients.

Typical activities can include defining rig layouts and system component drawings, performing stress analysis and sizing calculations, ensure consideration is given to appropriate material selection, production of technical specifications.

The role will likely involve the management and leadership of a small group of engineers to deliver required technical outputs to meet business need.

Responsibilities

  • Work from customer/client requirements and specifications to develop and produce designs incorporating mechanical components to meet required technical outcomes,

  • Development of technical specifications to meet program and customer needs.

  • Apply engineering best practice to successfully deliver required technical outputs.

  • Undertake, scrutinize, and approve engineering calculations and analyses to underpin design functionality and maintain safe operation of mechanical equipment.

  • Oversight of the production of engineering drawings to BS8888. Act as principal drawing and design checker/approver as required in line with internal design drawing process.

  • Provide engineering input and support to generation of bids and proposals including generation of resource and materials estimates needed to meet outputs.

  • Support development of team members and progression of engineering competency within the section, including development of career plans, annual objective setting and identification of training needs.

  • Apply expertise to generate innovative and / or technically differentiated solutions to problems, to deliver added value for clients.

  • Assist the development of the engineering elements of the project/task baseline scope, schedule and budget for multi-discipline delivery.

  • Ability to work remotely whilst successfully achieving deliverable based outcomes through a virtual team.

  • Ensure status and performance of work is reported accurately and in a timely manner

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Experience / Skills:

  • Educated to degree level in mechanical engineering (or other relevant degree).

  • Professionally accredited to IEng/CEng or working towards this level of professional registration.

  • Experience of ensuring designs meet operability, maintainability & safety issues.

  • Knowledge of machining / fabrication / manufacturing processes.

  • Experience in Concept Design, Scheme Design, Detailed Design & Design for Manufacture phases.

  • Detail design knowledge of mechanical mechanisms or bespoke equipment for Nuclear use.

  • Knowledge of delivering against legislative, regulatory and company policy standards and procedures e.g. safety, quality, risk, security.

  • Proficient in detailed drawing production & checking to relevant drawing standards BS8888, BS5070 and BS EN 61082 – with relevant experience in the Nuclear Industry.

  • Experience of using relevant software packages (Inventor/SolidWorks/AutoCAD/Vault packages).

  • Proactive and driven approach to work, taking ownership of the tasks required to be completed under their remit.

  • Proficient in use of office applications (Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Outlook).

  • Proficient in engineering calculations and verification.

  • Ability & desire to provide support and mentorship to junior engineers.

  • Adaptable and strong interpersonal skills, for communication with internal team members and clients.
