Jacobs are recruiting for a Senior Project Manager with experience in the nuclear industry to join our rapidly growing Decommissioning Projects Group. This role will be based in our Birchwood office in the North West of the UK but there will be a need for visits to client sites to ensure smooth delivery of projects.
The Decommissioning business provides an exciting mixture of consultancy, engineering and project management support, along with delivery of challenging decommissioning related EPC projects, to major clients in the UK across both the civil nuclear and defence industries, including Dounreay, Sellafield Limited, Urenco and Magnox. Overseas, we are delivering similarly interesting and exciting projects across the globe including project for clients in Central and Eastern Europe and Japan.
We are very proud to have supported these clients for many years, and our partnering arrangements will enable us to sustain and enhance this support in the long-term. We also deliver a number of projects for other private companies and academia needing decommissioning solutions.
As the business grows, We are looking for more Project Management capacity to ensure effective management of tenders, projects and client relationships, and in return we offer the right candidates an opportunity to take ownership for delivery and to provide support to develop their own skills so as to provide a successful outcome for customers.
Senior Project Managers are expected to lead and manage Cat B projects ranging from £1M-£20M, with a section of risk profiles and contracting terms.
As a Senior Project Manager your responsibilities will include:
The direct delivery of EPC contracts or a portfolio of design projects
Direct interface with Clients to develop business opportunities; build relationships and communication on project progress and proactively manage change
Applying the company project controls standards and developing, maintaining, reporting and trending an accurate baseline
Delivery of projects to the budgeted margins, effective contract change management and communication at every stage.
The management of projects safely, to time, quality standards, and to budget
Proactive and adaptable approach suited to the diverse and challenging nature of the business
Prepare and present formal monthly progress reports as part of business governance review
Participating in the development and improvement of Project Management performance within the business
Provision of support to PM’s and PE’s within the business.
Tendering and new business capture activities, developing the project management strategies and implementing them in delivery.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES:
Degree educated, ideally in engineering or related subject
Chartered engineer or equivalent professional qualification.
APMP formal project management qualification or equivalent.
The Senior Project Manager must have a good, detailed understanding of a wide range of project management competencies.
Be able to evaluate and adopt them within a complex project environment.
Must have personally executed most of the project management competencies by managing a number of complex EPC projects.
Need to have involved a knowledge of engineering, design, procurement, safety case, construction and installation/commissioning management and commercial contracting.
Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of relevant Health and Safety and Environment legislation including CDM and the actions required to achieve compliance along with a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture.
Must also have a good understanding of the needs of quality and how quality is assured and controlled along with relevant experience of commercial, contractual and financial project drivers.
Must have excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks and be results-focussed tempered with a team-centred approach.
Must have had experience of dealing with a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders.
Must be a strong conflict manager with a firm and assertive approach but take the analytical approach with a “can do” problem solving ability.
Demonstrable experience of managing projects throughout the full project lifecycle, ideally across a range of complex multi-discipline projects and environments, and management of an integrated project team including staff, agency and assigned functional support.
Must be able to demonstrate experience of estimating, cost control, planning and commercial awareness including the preparation of business cases and sanction/ funding papers.
Should be experienced in the preparation of reports and information using packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, be proficient in the use of estimating, scheduling, programming and risk tools and in the use of Earned Value tools. Analytical approach with high-level problem-solving ability.
Due to an expanding portfolio of works Japanese Language skills would be beneficial.
