About the opportunity

The purpose of this role is to build a dynamic and safe working environment, inspiring teams and delivering quality products to our clients. The role will cover the day-to-day Operations Management of the Operational Road Safety team, which works in road user safety; road worker safety, and the road safety of others affected by transport projects. The team is responsible for diverse services including:

• Road Safety Audit in accordance with GG 119 or other procedures such as TfL SQA0170;

• Walking, Cycling and Horse-riding Assessment and Review in accordance with GG 142

• Collision investigation and data analysis, and identification of collision/casualty prevention interventions

• Safety Governance in accordance with GG 104 Safety Risk Assessment Standard, including Safety Risk Assessments, supporting design decisions such as Departures from Standard or Options Selection

This role is to coordinate resources across the ORS team, foster a one Jacobs team approach, provide strategic leadership by promoting the team, accountability, situational adaptability and to work with the ORS Head of Discipline to promote innovative solutions. Other duties will include, but not limited to, are communication, planning, influencing and conflict management, working with team leads to develop and forecast training budgets and ensure E3 requirements are completed on time. You will also develop robust succession planning to ensure we are encouraging promoting staff from within Jacobs.

Involvement in team projects and project work will also be required to ensure good billability and also keeping current with client expectations and requirements. Whilst there is no specific split between project work and this role it is likely that 1 to 2 days per week will be required in order to carry out the role

Direct reports: ORS Team leads which manage our teams across various office locations

Whilst there is no set location for this role, it will require the ability to travel in line with business needs.

Responsibilities

• To develop a culture of technical excellence and drive a right first-time approach and take overall responsibility and accountability for the delivery of the team’s deliverables on time with the right resources.

• Provide day to day line management for the ORS team and work collaboratively with the ORS Head of Discipline.

• Take overall responsibility and accountability for the teams’ timesheet management, expenses, E3 requirements and team Inclusion and diversity.

• Ensure Resource Management systems are kept up to date and identify gaps in skills and resource to the Head of Capability for Highways Technology in a timely manner.

• Take responsibility for the G&A budget allocated to the ORS team and ensure that ORS element of projects are delivered within agreed timescales and budgets.

• Support the development of the Transportation Global Integrated Design (GID) delivery Plan, ensuring that the team capability is fully aligned with the plan and supports the development of successful co-working with the GID Centre’s.

• Work with the ORS Head of Discipline and ORS Team leads to drive the development & innovation of our solutions for our clients, to meet their greatest challenges.

• To work in partnership with the Head of Capability for Highways Technology, ORS Head of Discipline, Scheme Project Managers and; Market Sector and Portfolio Leads to drive a culture of safety and inclusion.

• Technical input to project delivery in the Operational Road Safety discipline on projects.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

• Degree/HNC or relevant experience

• Excellent communicator

• Extensive experience in people management

• Good understanding of highway business and operational road safety in order to lead the operation of this highly specialist discipline

Preferred

• Chartered or equivalent, or with qualifications and/or appropriate experience to achieve it, and working toward chartered status or equivalent

• Extensive knowledge of the ORS Sector
