About The Opportunity:

The Jacobs Cities & Places team create thriving places - from regions to cities, neighbourhoods to individual buildings and all through an integrated design approach. We have a tremendous opportunity in front of us to build upon our strengths and develop an interdisciplinary planning, design and delivery practice that is uniquely Jacobs, that sets the direction for the industry and is home to the very best and brightest design thinkers, disruptors, technical experts, visionaries and storytellers.

Our business unit brings together engineers, architects, surveyors, urban designers, project managers and transport planners to provide collaborative and coordinated value design solutions for our clients, both nationally and internationally.

We are looking for a Regional Leader to join our busy and exciting Building Structures team who are currently working on some extremely diverse and challenging projects. Our exciting key clients include Heathrow Airport, London Underground, National Grid and various advanced technology organisations including pharmaceutical laboratories, giga factories and microchip manufacturers. You’d need to be based on a hybrid basis in our central Birmingham office.

You will play a pivotal role in providing design leadership and discipline integration of projects delivered by our Cities & Places business unit. Using technical experience and excellent people skills, you will manage projects and guide / mentor a team of Structural Engineers to produce designs and associated deliverables for projects. The role will provide a client facing opportunity for projects and ensure that Jacobs maintains the highest technical standards, levels of service and quality.

As a member of the Building Structures design team, you will play a crucial role in the delivery of technical solutions, balancing commercial, technical, and mentoring responsibilities. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality, technically excellent solutions and the seamless sharing of information with other discipline teams, as well as representing Jacobs in liaising with clients, architects and other design team members.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • You are a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer with a relevant professional body

  • Knowledge and experience in the design and specification of Large and complex UK building structures to relevant standards and regulations

  • Adept at leading and mentoring less experienced Engineers within a project

  • Familiarity with the use of structural analysis and design software – an understanding of Information Management and Digital Delivery with the ability to work and deliver solutions within a 3D environment

  • Ability to undertake structural inspections and report on material and construction defects

  • Experience and understanding of multi-disciplinary design processes and an ability to liaise directly with clients, architects and other design team members - consider and incorporate sustainability and eliminate health and safety risks within the design

  • Contribution to the commercial success of projects, including delivery within programme and budget and effective change control management
