Jacobs Senior LAN/WAN Network Engineer in Bluemont, Virginia
Your Impact:
Jacobs is seeking a Senior LAN/WAN Network Engineer to join our team supporting our government customer in the National Capital Region. You’ll be a part of a team that helps shapes the strategic future for our clients and define the strategy to get them there. This position requires an active DoD TS security clearance with SCI eligibility.
Responsibilities:
Work as part of a small communications support team providing system and network operations support to current IT and telecommunications, networks, systems, services; and engineering support to expand the network architecture and future capabilities.
In this role as the team’s Senior LAN/WAN Network Engineer, you will:
Perform as senior-level contributor with knowledge and experience in local and wide area networking, communications, and related software/hardware.
Provide support a mission driven team comprised of contractors and government personnel.
Assist with integration of network and hardware infrastructure, including the planning, design, installation, maintenance, and management of the enterprise LAN/WAN.
Perform administration, installation, and maintenance of the following devices: Cisco routers; switches; VoIP phones and VTC devices; rack infrastructure; servers; UPS; and HAIPE encryption devices.
Assist in the design, solutioning and implementation for future network expansion and the cyber physical protection and hardening of network infrastructure.
Review mission scope-of-work requirements and technical design packages.
Prepare and execute hardware deployment and site installation plans. Coordinate with customer project managers, administrative and technical program support staff, and customers. Mobilize and direct installations.
Have familiarity with modern technological developments and applications to assist in evaluation of new products and make recommendations for purchase.
Perform site surveys to assess and document current and proposed site network configuration and architecture based on mission requirements, specifications, and customer needs. Create diagrams as needed for planning and documentation purposes
As an integral team member, you will expand your knowledge and skills beyond the fixed network environments as you operate, maintain, integrate, test, and troubleshoot extendable, transportable communications equipment kits, including secure and non-secure networks, IT and RF systems providing voice, video, and data services.
You will directly support the customer leading or supporting various projects and initiatives. Projects typically include technology, operational and policy aspects related to current systems, future concepts, capabilities, and processes.
Work requires effectively managing independent tasks to meet deliverable expectations and proactive engagement with government customers to achieve overall mission success.
Use problem solving skills and experience to analyze, evaluate, and recommend solutions to meet future systems capability requirements.
Lead IT and telecommunications project from requirements development through design and acquisition, culminating in stakeholder operational test and acceptance.
Apply technical expertise to make recommendations and support integration of fixes, modifications, enhancements, new systems, and new capabilities into existing operations.
Provides technical review and input to plans and CONOPS.
Advise the customer on the development of technical approaches to solving integration and interoperability related problems.
Install, label, and organize interior STP CAT5/6 copper, and fiber cabling.
Participate in activities to ensure knowledge creation/sharing and integration within and across the work program as appropriate.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
MS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications, Management, or related discipline with a minimum of (10) years of relevant work experience.
Active DoD TS security clearance with SCI eligibility
Position will routinely interact with senior government officials. Ideal candidate must be able to effectively communicate technical parameters at an operational and strategic level.
Preferred:
Experience designing Cisco or Juniper based network solutions
Experience with HAIPE configuration and deployment
Current Cisco Network Engineer track training and certifications a plus
Experience with DWDM solutions
CISCO’s Carrier Ethernet solution
IT project management experience progressing IT SDLC from requirement development through production
Experience with cryptographic systems, radio systems, video teleconferencing systems, satellite systems, network architecture and/or inside cable plant distribution systems.
