Jacobs Geotechnical Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts
By joining us as a Geotechnical Engineer, you will lead geotechnical tasks, provide leadership to geotechnical staff, and lead the delivery for on a wide variety of projects, with a focus on transport infrastructure and water markets. . These projects will include both conventional design-bid-build projects, as well as design-build projects.
Your responsibilities will include leading projects in the development and implementation of geotechnical data collection programs, geotechnical analyses, preparation of reports, development of contract documents, and providing support during project construction. Each day, you will have the opportunity to follow projects from concept development through the construction phase with our engineers.
You will also be responsible for coordination and oversight of subsurface investigation programs, preparation of geotechnical engineering and foundation recommendation reports, preparation of geotechnical specifications, design and analysis of foundation and ground retention systems, and construction monitoring experience of pile foundations and drilled shafts.
Technical skills that are required to serve in this role include, but are not necessarily limited to, knowledge and experience in the following areas:
• Exploration methods, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, and laboratory testing for soil and rock;
• Experience with design, construction, and inspection of water and transport infrastructure projects;
• Design of typical geotechnical structures, such as shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, embankment and cut slopes, and ground improvement;
• Preparation of technical reports, design drawings and specifications
• Familiarity with computer programs for geotechnical analyses, such as SETTLE3D, APILE, LPILE, GRLWEAP, DeepEx, SLIDE or SLOPE, MATHCAD, FB-Multipier, PLAXIS 2D and 3D, or FLAC 2D and 3D; and
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil3D
• Python programming and application of AI and ML in geotechnical engineering would be an added advantage.
• Master of Science degree with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering
• Substantial professional post graduate years of geotechnical design experience (consulting or contracting)
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Flexibility to travel for office and field assignments within the New England and NY/NJ regions.
