We are looking for an experienced Railroad Locomotive Yard Engineer to join our team. This position coordinates activities of switch - engine crew within railroad yard, or similar locations within Naval Base Kitsap near Silverdale & Poulsbo. Regular hours Monday-Friday with overtime available. Rewarding work with purpose – over 50 employees with 20+ years longevity proves it!

Summary/General Description Of Job:
The Locomotive Railroad Yard Engineer coordinates activities of switch-engine crew within railroad yard, or similar location. Reviews train schedules and switching orders and coordinate activities of workers engaged in railroad traffic operations, such as the makeup or breakup of trains and yard switching.
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
Operates electric, diesel‑electric, steam, or gas‑turbine‑electric locomotive, interpreting train orders, block or semaphore signals, and railroad rules and regulations, to transport freight in a safe manner.
Inspects locomotive before run begins to insure it is equipped with fuel, sand, water, and other supplies.
Operates throttle, air brakes, and other controls to operate locomotive based on signals received from Conductor.
Observes track to see that it is clear of obstacles at all times. Inspects locomotive after run to detect damaged or defective equipment.
Prepares reports to explain accidents, unscheduled stops, or delays as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
May perform work in other classifications when incidental work is necessary to the accomplishment of the work assignment. Significant work in another job classification may be required if accompanied by any wage adjustments applicable.

Completing all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.

Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work.

Adherence to established company safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices.
Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies and procedures.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations):
Mandatory
Two years’ experience in locomotive operation within the past 10 years.
Must have sufficient training and familiarity with railroad locomotives to be able to obtain certification and licensing by the U.S. Government as a Locomotive Engineer for the type and size of locomotives used on SUBASE.
Must obtain and maintain required explosives certifications when assigned to ordnance operations.
Must meet and maintain company physical and security requirements, including clearance eligibility when required.
Must possess good communication skills for a service team environment.
Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
