About the Opportunity

Jacobs are recruiting for a Systems Engineer (Electrical) to join our Generation Services business supporting our key client EDF Nuclear Generation with regards to their nuclear fleet in the UK. The specific role is a key role within our engineering resource team at EDF’s Hinkley Point B Power Station and you will be part of a large client-led team at this location involved in multiple engineering activities.

Over the last 46 years, Hinkley Point B has generated 311 TWh of low carbon and is now entering a new phase in its life - defueling and decommissioning. This involves the safe removal of all spent fuel from the reactor core, the cooling ponds and stores whilst looking ahead and preparing for deconstruction. At a time of nuclear resurgence working for Jacobs at Hinkley Point B offers a unique opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within an operational defueling environment whilst also looking ahead to future potential opportunities in nuclear new build or decommissioning and deconstruction.

  • Accountable to the client Group Head and working within the engineering team to ensure execution of fleet engineering standards and processes for safe and reliable operation of a nuclear power plant in accordance with all licenses, regulating bodies, business strategies and industry best practices

  • Responsible for a number of plant systems and support on other systems, encompassing review, monitoring and assessment of maintenance duties, acting as the direct point of contact for that plant, condition monitoring performance trending, plant walkdowns and system health reviews

  • Source of technical expertise on your systems

  • Adapt your system’s maintenance regime to the new demand of a defueling station

  • Look ahead into deconstruction and planning system demands and maintenance regimes

  • Produce justifications and managing modifications to the plant

Here’s What You’ll Need:

We are looking for candidates with a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture. Key skills will include strong communication and organisational skills, plus enthusiasm, drive and ownership in a team-centred approach. Candidates should possess appropriate engineering experience and abilities applicable to equipment reliability, maintenance and modification of complex plant equipment. This will also include the ability to understand, with appropriate training, the design specification and safety requirements of the plant and apply these in all aspects of the role.

  • Typically Chartered Engineer or HND with extensive experience in electrical engineering. HNC or equivalent may be considered if accompanied with appropriate industrial experience

  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification

  • Knowledge and application of Health and Safety legislation, including Construction Design Management and Health and Safety at Work Act

  • Experience of identifying, implementing, and complying with applicable safety, environmental and quality standards, company procedures and policies and other relevant legislative and regulatory requirements

  • Background in nuclear power plant operations is advantageous

  • Suitable relevant experience within engineering/construction projects, particularly in an operational context

  • Technical experience including the preparation of technical documentation, the review and approval of technical proposals and procedures and experience of testing and decommissioning activities
