The System Engineer will be responsible for performing the necessary engineering analysis, including the supporting calculations, for a specific system(s) in order to produce the system documentation required for the HPC project working from the Client, Bristol office. The System Engineer will act as the central point of contact for system(s) which fall(s) under their responsibility. This role is for a System Engineer specialising in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) design.
Responsible for preparing the System Design Manual including:
o Analysis and verification of the input data
o Describing the system, its role and mission (including the safety missions)
o Updating and implementing the Safety Classified Component List, SCCL, working closely with the Safety Department (SNE) at CNEN (EDF Paris)
o Carrying out the process and operational design of the system
o Sizing components e.g. pumps, pipework, pressure relief valves
o Performing thermal modelling using ThBat software
o Producing component datasheets required for the procurement of equipment
o Ensuring the 3D model is accurate and consistent with the intended system design
o Performing the analysis for defining the Instrumentation and Control Functional Requirements of the system and production of the I&C logic
o Working closely with counterparts in the Edvancel Paris office to agree common approaches and share knowledge
Management of modifications related to the system including:
o Managing requests for modifications to system(s) issued by various external parties
o Analysis and verification of the applicability of these modifications and challenging them as appropriate
o Developing technical solutions and presenting them to the client to help resolve technical issues
o Utilising the electronic Engineering Change Management tool

Language(s): English, French advantageous
Ability to effectively manage own workload in order to produce high quality documents and respect deadlines
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, both written and orally
Proactive and confident in communicating with others, particularly those based in remote offices including France
Proactive in developing positive working relations with others within the project
Continuously looking for opportunities to improve quality of engineering studies and the subsequent documentation produced
Reporting Line: Reports to the ESWA Group Leader but day-to-day- work is facilitated through the technical coordinator

Note3: Expected to attend Client site during normal working hours Monday to Friday – 40hrs per week
Note4: BPSS level security required & the successful candidate shall require to complete an application.
Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
Knowledge of nuclear HVAC system design, calculation and modelling
Working knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and thermodynamics
Knowledge of PWR or AGR power station design and system
Understanding of Safety Case construction and Nuclear Safety requirements placed on systems
Understanding of Nuclear Safety principles related to design of HVAC systems on a Nuclear Power Station
Knowledge of UK licensing requirements and its application within the HPC project
Knowledge of EPR design principles and Safety Classification
Knowledge of Instrumentation and Control design
Experience of performing HVAC design work on UK nuclear facilities
Ability to speak and write technical documents in French
Familiarity with Human Performance techniques
Experience of working on an operating plant or on an industrial site
