Jacobs Government Solutions team have some exciting opportunities in Defence; across the physical (Land, Air, Sea) and digital (Cyber) environments. These roles are predominantly Bristol based though there are opportunities at other sites across the country. We are currently recruiting for pioneering Project Managers to join our growing Defence Team. We are seeking cross industry, pro-active collaborators with a passion for Project Management at all experience levels.

Working with our esteemed client teams you will undertake a range of project support, project management and leadership activities whilst assisting with the development of client personnel through coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer.

In this role you will:

• Provide clear and effective management and/or support to project teams

• Review, analyse, develop and improve the effectiveness of existing processes in relation to P3M delivery and continuous improvement

• Influence, advise, challenge and support the client in their project delivery to time, cost and quality.

You may also be deployed as an individual and will require the confidence to work independently; challenging, advising and supporting as required.

The role is focussed on achieving scheduled activities (and artefacts), utilising the appropriate principles to achieve the agreed vision and strategy. You will operate at the client site with client teams, providing guidance, delivering plans, and producing documentation and artefacts. Strong collaborative skills are required to maintain communications and engagement between all stakeholders throughout the programme/project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

As a Project Manager your key responsibilities will include:

• Supporting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in everything you do.

• Accountability for the timely and cost-effective delivery of client projects, meeting business and environmental objectives

• Supporting the Lead PM, managing and developing cross functional multi-disciplinary teams, providing direction across the Functions covering a range of subject areas within associated multiple simple projects, semi-complex projects, or complex control accounts dependent on your experience and proficiency level

• Ensuring the most cost-effective and efficient means of delivery, whilst mitigating risk and leveraging opportunities

• Influencing and supporting client project delivery through effective and proportionate planning, monitoring, controlling and reporting of performance.

• Embedding and adhering to all client governance and policy and enable the required compliance throughout their team, ensure appropriate challenge and gain required approval to deviate where necessary

• Supervising and liaising with the supply chain to support project outputs

• Agreeing when project activities are actioned or deferred, agreeing schedule and cost impacts and checking the work has been satisfactorily completed to agreed criteria

• Ensuring a fit for purpose Risk Management System is embedded in project decision making and championing the risk management process

• Managing/controlling change and the associated follow-on activities, whilst ensuring compliance with all relevant procedures

• Understanding requirements ensuring clarity of identification, definition and specification of programmes and projects, to align with client business needs and context

• Championing the application of appropriate project delivery strategies and commercial methodologies, which will deliver a successful project output

• Ensuring appropriate services to the project are delivered through securing technical, engineering, project controls, commercial and financial support

• Promoting and fostering positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

• Capturing and implementing learning from experience (LFE) processes throughout the project lifecycle, supporting the development of best practice and governance at project and organisational levels

• Promoting a safe and positive reporting culture, ensuring any matters arising are given a timely response by the required stakeholders

• Supporting an open, honest, no blame culture. Constructively highlighting issues or shortfalls and drawing Learning from Experience (LFE) into the project or control account

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Personal Attributes:

• Experience of managing or supporting a (multi-disciplinary) project management team in delivering projects

• Experience of stakeholder management and negotiation skills at varying levels of seniority

• Ability to work autonomously and proactively managing a changing workload

• Tier 1, Prime and/or subcontractor organisation experience

• Ability to develop and build relationships

• Proficient in the use of P3M practices and project management tools

• Consultancy focus with a proven track record in delivering projects

• Ability to identify client requirements and scope wider business opportunities

• Ability to quickly learn and understand organisational structures and working practices

• Effective communicator, both written and orally

• APM PMQ and/or PRINCE2 Practitioner certification

• Active APM Membership.

  • Knowledge of the Defence Industry is beneficial but not essential

Other Important Points:

• Ability to achieve SC level clearance (or above) as required - Jacobs can sponsor

• Full UK Driving Licence is beneficial but not essential

• Travel and/or deployment to various UK locations may be necessary

• Home office will be in Bristol.
