Jacobs Senior Civil / Structural Engineering Advisor in Bristol, United Kingdom

About the role:

(FYI we are open on base location for the role, however the successful candidate will need to be prepared to undertake occasional travel to Bristol & Plymouth)

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join a large multidisciplinary team on a mission critical submarine infrastructure project in the Defence Major Programmes Portfolio. This is a client facing role where you will be directly supporting the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA). As an experienced Civil / Structural Engineer, you will provide expert advice to our customer, providing oversight of contractor/licensee proposals as the designs develop.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Advising customers on design features to meet project requirements whilst ensuring value for money and guarding against excessive margins.

  • Inform the customers view of design drivers and trade-offs, providing clear recommendations on the value for money design option.

  • Providing technical support on civil and structural engineering design features to inform how they affect operability of the facility.

  • Providing advice on the developing design for manufacturability, and through life maintainability

  • Providing technical inputs for funding requests and technical requirements for contracts.

  • Reviewing design & construction activities and schedules to identify areas that can be improved and reduce construction timescales

The role can be Bristol or Plymouth based with regular WFH available. Some travel to both Bristol and Plymouth will be required.

Essential:

  • Chartered Engineering status from either the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers (or equivalent)

  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of implementing infrastructure projects (design and construction)

  • Experience of design and safety management of heavy civils/infrastructure

  • Experience of working with, and advising, government clients

  • Awareness of seismic analysis techniques

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of design, safety features, previous modifications, current asset condition and asset performance of existing Submarine infrastructure at Devonport.

  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of implementing infrastructure projects (design and construction) on UK nuclear licensed sites
