The System Engineer will be responsible for performing the necessary engineering analysis, including the supporting calculations, for a specific system(s) in order to produce the system documentation required for the HPC project. The exact system the Systems Engineer will be responsible for will depend on the skillset but will be either a Water distribution or Gas distribution type system. The System Engineer will act as the central point of contact for system(s) which fall(s) under their responsibility. The System Engineer will interact with the other client teams based in the UK (including building layout and piping teams), the client office in Paris and external clients.
Responsible for preparing the System Design Manual including:
Analysis and verification of the input data
Describing the system, its role and mission (including the safety missions)
Performing the analysis for defining the Instrumentation and Control
Functional Requirements of the system
Updating the Instrumentation and Control documentation, including the DFD, Functional test procedure and Valid DFD
Updating and implementing the Safety Classified Component List working closely with the Safety Department (SNE) in Paris.
Carrying out the process and operational design of the system
Sizing components e.g. pumps, pipework, pressure relief valves
Producing component datasheets required for the procurement of equipment
Ensuring the 3D model is accurate and consistent with the intended system design
Developing effective working relationships with counterparts in the client’s Paris office to agree common approaches and share knowledge
Management of modifications related to the system including:
Managing requests for modifications to system(s) issued by various external parties
Analysis and verification of the applicability of these modifications including the consideration of safety, environmental and commercial implications, and challenging as appropriate
Developing technical solutions and presenting them to the client to help resolve technical issues
Utilising the electronic Engineering Change management tool

Note4: BPSS level security required
Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
Junior Engineer, Engineer – considered
Knowledge of system design, calculation and modelling
Working knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and thermodynamics
Knowledge of PWR or AGR power station design and systems
Understanding of Safety Case construction and Nuclear Safety requirements placed on systems
Understanding of Nuclear Safety principles related to design of systems on a Nuclear Power Station
Knowledge of UK licensing requirements and its application within the HPC project
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, both written and orally
Proactive and confident in communicating with others, particularly those based in remote offices including France
Ability to effectively manage own workload in order to produce high quality documents and respect deadlines
Good written/spoken English and confident presenter
Good attention to detail and a high level of analytical and numerate skills
Ability to work autonomously under broad instructions
Knowledge of EPR design principles and Safety Classification
Knowledge of Instrumentation and Control design
Ability to speak and write technical documents in French
Familiarity with Human Performance techniques
Experience of working on an operating plant or on an industrial site
Membership of a Professional Institute leading to Chartered Status
