Jacobs Canada West Rail and Transit Rolling Stock Lead in Burnaby, British Columbia

The Canada West Rail and Transit Rolling Stock Lead will play a pivotal role performing a variety of consulting, technical and commercial support in expanding our rail and transit rolling stock engineering practice with an initial focus on western Canada, and other regions as required. This position requires a unique blend of technical expertise, strategic vision, and sales acumen to drive business growth and ensure the successful delivery of complex rail and transit projects.

In this leadership role, you will be responsible for spearheading business development efforts, managing client relationships and supporting delivery of multidisciplinary complex projects involving rolling stock fleets including light rail, rapid transit, commuter cars, multiple units and locomotives.

The ideal candidate will have a strong sales background, coupled with extensive experience in Rail and Transit vehicle engineering, maintenance and operations. Your ability to leverage a broad network of industry contacts and navigate the competitive landscape will be crucial in driving our market position forward. Good writing and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are essential.

Duties may include:

Business Development and Market Expansion

  • Lead business development initiatives to grow our Rail and Transit Consulting business with an initial focus in the western Canada market, with potential to support other regions as required.

  • Develop and execute strategies for expanding market share in rolling stock consulting services.

  • Identify new business opportunities.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and industry partners.

  • Develop and conduct Rolling Stock market survey and capacity analysis.

  • Serve as Rail and Transit Consulting Group’s liaison with respect to all issues relevant to procurement of rolling stock.

Project and Client Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, managing the interface between the consulting team and project pursuits to ensure seamless communication and alignment with client objectives.

  • Oversee project delivery, ensuring technical and commercial performance meets or exceeds client expectations.

  • Assess contract performance and compliance, making and implementing recommendations to optimize project outcomes, and improve positioning for future pursuits.

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients, contractors, and industry contacts to facilitate business growth and ensure the success of current and future projects.

  • Represent the company at client meetings, public hearings, and industry conferences, showcasing our expertise, commitment to excellence and value proposition.

  • Manage the interface between consultant team and client, and interface between third parties and the client/consultant team, to ensure effective collaboration and resolution of any issues that arise.

Industry and Technological Insight:

  • Stay informed of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes that impact the Rail and Transit rolling stock sector.

  • Provide technical guidance on a variety of Rail and Transit Consulting assignments, including the procurement and overhaul of rolling stock vehicles, and other transit-related assignments.

  • Support development and reviews of proposed designs for transit fleets, technical specifications, O&M requirements, and contract documents.

  • Assess contract performance and compliance, make and implement recommendations.

  • Ensure that Company principles, policies, integrity, and procedures are consistently practiced.

  • Work with other Jacobs staff, client and 3rd party consultants and contractors to deliver high-quality projects, promote positive, professional employee relations.

  • Leverage insights to position our services effectively in the market and to guide strategic decision-making.

  • Perform other assignments and duties as requested.

  • Substantial years of relevant experience in the rail and transit industry, with a proven track record of successful project delivery for major rail and/or transit systems and/or technology projects.

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Transportation, Public Policy, Construction Management, Finance/Economics, Business Administration or related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from an accredited college or university.

  • Familiarity with effective procurement best practices, and relevant statutes, laws, and regulations governing the rail and transit-related works.

  • Strong understanding of the rolling stock business, technological needs, and trends, as well as larger business, technological, and regulatory trends that can affect the rail and transit industry.

  • Experience with all types of rail and road transit vehicle engineering, maintenance, and operation, specification development, fleet procurement and contracting; testing and commissioning is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with clients, establish and maintain relationships, and articulate complex concepts effectively.

  • Excellent problem-solving, judgment, decision-making, and analytical skills.

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication, organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team, and to work with all levels within a given organization (internal or external).

  • A Professional Engineer (PE) or P.Eng or equivalent designation is desirable.

Note: Active participation in industry associations such as the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) or Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) is a plus.
