Jacobs Civil Design CAD Technician - Vancouver, BC in Burnaby, British Columbia
This position is responsible for preparing drawings and sketches using CAD workstations, appropriate design criteria, and technical manuals often working closely with engineers to coordinate designs. As a Civil Designer, you’ll have the chance to work with our water/wastewater engineering staff to support our work in the water, water resources, and wastewater engineering markets, on projects such as large diameter water mains, pump stations, and municipal wastewater treatment plant process design.
Assist in preparation of design drawings and maps for water infrastructure including large diameter watermains, pump stations, crossover chambers and valve chambers, water and wastewater treatment plans
Preparation of pipe network/routing options, plan and profile, hydraulics and system sizing, relocation of existing utilities, site layouts and grading plans.
Demonstrate strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil3D.
Must take a personal lead in completing tasks, understanding how the tasks need to be modeled, designed and drafted, following clients drafting standards and design guidelines
Adhere to quality management plans, checks own work prior to delivery and able to address comments in an organized and documented manner.
Possess a strong working knowledge of advanced drafting practices and familiarity with CADD principles (i.e., text placement and editing, layering, snap, precision input, etc).
Perform basic land surveying, geometric, trigonometric, volumetric and hydraulic calculations
Have the ability to organize assignments to ensure design budgets and timelines are met.
Interface with Internal and External Contacts.
Coordinate with multiple project design disciplines for interference checking and quality control.
A minimum of 8 years’ experience as a civil/water designer/ drafter, delivering site civil designs including site layouts buried piping and services and site grading.
Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A.Sc.T. Certification or equivalent is an asset.
Proven local experience in the Vancouver Lower Mainland on municipal water projects would be an asset
Familiar with GIS and other mapping tools and pipeline engineering design software and how they are translated into a design drawing.
Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil3D.
Experience using ProjectWise would be an asset.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Experience in mentoring and reviewing deliverables prepared by other members of the design team.
Some construction experience preferred.
