Jacobs Civil Design Technician - Vancouver, BC in Burnaby, British Columbia

As a Civil Design Technician, you’ll have the chance to lead or help lead design teams of technical staff to deliver civil, linear and transportation drawing packages and be responsible for overall drawing production work and CADD standard enforcement on a variety of small to medium civil engineering assignments. Working with other members of the team, you’ll perform basic land surveying, geometric, trigonometric, volumetric and hydraulic calculations, work closely with Project/Design managers and Design Engineers to help deliver quality project deliverables and provide Projectwise Project start-up and provide oversight and mentoring to the project team.

During your time with us, you will support the project team through all Jacobs design phases and assist with project scope, schedule, and budget with respect to drawing production. You will provide drawing production progress updates and quality audits as well as perform design and delivery coordination with project lead designers and project managers for interference checking and quality control and develop project/client specific CADD standards, CADD checklist, and drawing production quality control/assurance procedures.   • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in delivering Site/Civil designs including site layout, buried piping and services, and site grading projects.

  • Strong technical skills related to CADD standards and automation.

  • Ability to prepare electronic drawing files within project standards, using 3D modeling/surface models, sketches, layouts, project instructions and notes.

  • Familiar with discipline specific data collection for internal use in estimating, specific to take-off reports.

  • Ability to establish close working relationship with project delivery teams, illustrating knowledge of Civil/BIM processes as they pertain to collaboration and coordination between disciplines.

  • Possess a strong working knowledge of advanced drafting practices and be familiar with CADD principles (i.e., text placement and editing, layering, snap, precision input, etc).

  • Interface with Internal and External Contacts.

  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Microstation is a requirement.

  • Exposure to Bentley Projectwise, Autodesk Civil3D and Bentley Inroads/Openroads would be an asset.

  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary team in multiple geographic offices. · Exposure in both Bentley Navigator and Autodesk Navisworks products.

  • Exposure in Bluebeam and Adobe Products.

  • High level of organizational skills teams with a good attitude, strong leadership skills and excellent time management skills. Able to work in a deadline driven, fast-paced environment.

  • Able to set priorities and manage change to meet the business needs and project schedules while managing multiple BIM projects concurrently.

  • Ability to establish close working relationship with project delivery teams, illustrating knowledge of Civil/BIM processes as they pertain to collaboration and coordination between disciplines.

  • Excellent verbal, communication and problem solving skills with strong attention to detail is a must.

  • Advanced knowledge of Windows O/S and Microsoft Office is required.

  • Willingness to learn new software, products, concepts, techniques and help develop new practices and standards.
