You’ll impact the world around you by helping us solve real-life challenges. Based out of your home office aligned to one of our office locations in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta or Vancouver, British Columbia, this position will be an estimated twelve-month contract (this could also be considered a full-time position based on experience). You’ll have the opportunity to work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams associated with our Western Canada offices to contribute to the environmental planning and permitting efforts of government and privately-owned infrastructure projects. The work will include assisting Vegetation Subject Matter Experts with preparation of vegetation-specific deliverables such as technical reports, regulatory applications, and landscape mapping. Work will also include preliminary review of field data and management of large datasets. This is a primarily office-based role with potential for fieldwork based on candidate experience and interest.

If based in British Columbia: The base salary range for this position is $57,200 to $69,150. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across British Columbia, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • B.Sc. in biology, related to botany, ecology, environmental sciences, an equivalent post secondary diploma or equivalent demonstrated experience.

  • Keen interest and/or experience identifying vascular plant species, including challenging groups such as grasses, sedges and willows.

  • Experience working with large datasets and managing interconnected data across multiple teams.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Strong technical writing skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • A driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract for fieldwork opportunities.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Aerial imagery interpretation and mapping experience.

  • An understanding of ecological land classification (e.g., ELC, or Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping [TEM]) and wetland classification schemas

  • Relevant professional experience in environmental consulting or related field is considered an asset.

  • Relevant professional experience conducting vegetation or rare plant surveys is considered an asset.

  • Familiarity with ecological communities in Western Canada, particularly northern, coastal, and interior BC, and boreal, parkland, and grassland AB.

  • P.Biol. or R.P.Bio. designation or be working towards such designation.
