Position Summary

Successfulcandidate will be working as a Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer in a dynamicoffice environment and needs to have experience with rotating equipment (pumpsand compressors), as well as rotating equipment packages.

Core responsibilities

  • Work with other rotating equipment engineers, other discipline engineers and designers, clients and rotating equipment vendors to develop safe, practical and economic designs,

  • Develop detailed rotating equipment specifications for projects by utilizing the client specifications and / or Jacobs' general specifications,

  • Develop and select mechanical design of rotating equipment,

  • Develop material requisitions of rotating equipment,

  • Review and approval of rotating equipment design criteria for different project phases on projects,

  • Ensure technical integrity of rotating equipment design deliverables,

  • Conduct document checking and design verification tasks for compliance to company and project procedures,

  • Contribute to design documentation and deliverables, such as rotating equipment sizing calculations, design criteria, and material requisitions,

  • Supervise critical analyses and calculations, conduct studies and prepare reports,

  • Checking and stamping of critical calculations, reports and drawings,

  • Interface with other Engineering Disciplines to help mediate design challenges,

  • Facilitate technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators),

  • Review and approve key engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries,

  • Prepare technical sections of enquiries and purchase orders, review bids and make recommendations leading to the selection of vendors,

  • Become well acquainted in all areas of responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineering department,

  • Interface and communicate with other disciplines about project specific needs for the Mechanical Department,

  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of the cost estimates and schedules for mechanical accounts for equipment for bids and proposal work,

  • Assist in organizing and maintaining departmental design guidelines and procedures manual,

  • Provide technical advice to others within the company,

  • When required on a project, coordinate checkout and start-up of field activities and coordinate work with Construction Superintendent,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required,

  • Active APEGA member in good standing, must have active Professional Engineering status (P. Eng.) in the province of Alberta,

  • Minimum of 20 years of experience with rotating equipment (Pumps and Compressors),

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the Canadian Oil and Gas Industry required,

  • Extensive knowledge of codes, standards and recommended industry standards for rotating equipment, for example API610, API617, API619, is required,

  • Extensive knowledge of Mechanical Seal Piping plans (Single, Dual, Quench, Gas) is required

  • Technical background in requisitioning of rotating equipment and knowledge of rotating equipment procurement cycles for all project phases is required,

  • Knowledge of rotating equipment packages is considered an asset,

  • Related field or construction experience with rotating equipment (seal plans) is considered an asset,

  • Work experience in a brown field or debottlenecking environment is considered an asset,

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve technical problems during all project phases,

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve technical questions and concerns with clients,

  • Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are an asset,

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required,
