Jacobs Senior Wildlife Biologist - Calgary, AB in Calgary, Alberta
We are seeking a Senior Wildlife Biologist, to join our team in either the Calgary, Victoria or Vancouver office. This position provides technical leadership on the wildlife biology components of our projects, as well as technical mentorship and guidance to our team of biologists.
The successful candidate will join our Environmental Planning and Permitting Practice and will work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams to contribute to the environmental permitting and planning efforts of government and privately-owned infrastructure projects.
This is a senior level position that possesses a variety of technical skills required for research, development, or quality control of processes or products related to project implementation. This individual possesses a deep understanding of their subject area and functions as a lead technologist on tasks or projects. This position uses comprehensive research to develop original approaches, and organizes ad hoc technical counsels to address technical subjects that are significant to the business. The individual is a tactical influencer and implementer within their subject area expertise.
As a recognized specialist of wildlife and wildlife habitat in western Canada, the successful candidate will provide strategic input to the growth of the business, and technical support to business development efforts. On projects, the successful candidate will provide technical leadership to the execution of the work, including baseline data collection efforts and methods, development of Technical Reports and regulatory applications. The Senior Wildlife Biologist may also be called upon to liaise with clients, regulatory authorities, stakeholders, and Indigenous communities on the work. This is a science-based role, and the successful candidate will have a strong reputation in the industry as a technical expert, and a proven ability to defend the technical rigor of the work completed.
Master’s Degree in wildlife or wildlife habitat-related studies
At least 12 years of directly relevant consulting experience conducting and managing wildlife studies
Strong field skills and two or more years of leading and managing teams in remote settings
Relevant regulatory experience that is applicable to the oil and gas, energy, mining, and/or infrastructure industries
Working knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation in western Canada;
Hold or be eligible for Professional Designation under the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists and/or the BC College of Applied Biology
Strong time management skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on multiple tasks/projects and meet project deadlines
Experience in client liaison and business development
Experience with overseeing wildlife biology components of environmental assessment and regulatory applications, as well as defending work in regulatory settings (i.e., oral hearings, working groups)
Positive attitude, self-motivated with strong initiative
Willingness to coach and provide technical mentoring to fellow team members
