Jacobs is seeking for Database Engineer to support its federal client in Northern VA. As a member of this Jacobs program, you will be pivotal in driving innovation and excellence within our software engineering team. Your expertise will directly contribute to developing and enhancing advanced solutions and elevating our application's performance, scalability, and user experience. By leveraging your skills to solve complex problems in software architecture, analysis, design, and database optimization, you will participate in initiatives that streamline processes and improve resource utilization in a dynamic, collaborative, innovative environment. The ideal candidate:

  • Define, create, maintain, backup, and secure the organization’s databases for multiple systems.

  • Designs, develops, builds, analyzes, evaluates, and installs database management systems, including database modeling and design, relational database architecture, metadata, repository creation, and configuration management.

  • Uses data mapping, mining, and transformational analysis tools to design and develop databases.

  • Determines data storage and optimum storage requirements.

  • Evaluate, size, and select technology components for database management systems and application databases, such as software, hardware, and networking capabilities.

  • Writes and tunes SQL queries for performance and scalability. Implements comprehensive backup and database replication solutions. Ensures security best practices are followed and compliance with the latest STIGS.

  • Set up and manage user and system accounts. Debugs and troubleshoots programs that are malfunctioning or returning/storing incorrect data.

Here’s what you’ll need :

-Bachelors degree and 10 years, or Associate degree and 14 years of experience

Experience with:

  • Providing support to IT systems, including day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for client problems.

  • Supporting implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of IT systems.

  • Managing IT system infrastructure and any processes related to these systems.

  • Performing server and storage capacity management and planning for the most complex and critical systems.

  • Managing, monitoring, and administering database system performance and schedule activities.

  • Performing optimization and tuning of data loads and extractions.

  • Installing and configuring database environments and associated storage systems.

  • Performing backups/restores and archiving data.

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining database applications within the cloud, VM, and bare metal environments, including transitioning legacy applications to the cloud environment.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience interpreting data models and developing database structures; using standard diagramming techniques to design and develop computer data models; and implementing and troubleshooting programming changes and modifications.

  • DBA support of Oracle databases.

  • Knowledge of database security requirements, developing, documenting, and implementing backup and recovery procedures.

  • Experience applying security patches for all components of Oracle Management Server and STIGs.

  • Configure and set up SSL and Transparent Data Encryption.

  • Experience configuring, managing, and maintaining the operation of complex relational databases.

  • Familiarity with UNIX and Windows operating systems.

  • Experience with Data Pump, RMAN, SQL Developer, and Oracle Enterprise Manager.
