The CTR Joint Venture provides program management, engineering, construction management, and IT implementation services to the Chicago Departments of Water Management (CDWM), Transportation (CDOT), and Assets, Information, and Services (AIS) in Chicago, Illinois. As part of the CTR Program team supporting the City’s IT initiatives, CTR leads IT implementations in a suite of existing systems utilized by the three departments.
The primary responsibility of the Business Analyst position is to work with the City of Chicago and CTR project teams to develop sustainable solutions to improve their daily job functions. The position works closely with CTR IT groups to enable the successful creation and execution of implementable deliverables. The Business Analyst will act as the central point of communication between project teams and the CTR project manager and/or IT groups that focus on system development. With opportunities to work with three different City departments, tasks can vary greatly in subject matter, but will focus on improving infrastructure efforts in the City of Chicago through implementation of advanced IT solutions. As this role works directly with City staff, communication skills (both orally and written) are critical. A successful candidate would be able to combine these skills with critical thinking abilities and attention to detail.
Performs deep dive assessments into current state operations including documentation of existing processes, evaluation of legacy systems, gap analyses, and identification of technical and functional requirements.
Serves as the interface between project teams and IT groups, with focus on business process improvement, solution discovery, and relationship management.
Works with IT groups to design and develop implementable and sustainable solutions.
Develop training materials and conduct formal and informal trainings for the developed solutions.
Communicates decisions, priorities, and relevant project information to appropriate levels of staff regarding business unit requests, projects, and initiatives.
Coordinates and conducts frequent client meetings and presentations.
Evaluate existing reports and reporting requirements, and work with development team to customize reporting for project team.
Serves as an active member of work stream and process improvement teams assisting with technology strategy as well as providing general business acumen.
Focuses on providing significant value to business units through strategic initiatives.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or other related field or equivalent work experience
At least 3 years of IT and business work experience with a broad range of exposure to various technical environments and business segments
Aptitude to work on multiple assignments simultaneously including working under pressure to meet project and task deadlines
Experience leading or assisting with IT implementations
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including clear and concise documentation of standards, policies, and procedures
Ability to work independently and as part of cross-functional teams, including with developers and subject matter experts
Communications and interpersonal skills, plus experience to deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism
Experience and/or ability to analyze data and quickly learn new IT systems
Proficiency in workflow documentation including software such as Microsoft Visio
Builds and maintains strong professional, trusted relationships with management, peers, and client
Ability to develop and provide end-user training
Enthusiastic and committed attitude toward work and task completion
Flexibility for minimal travel to satellite offices within the City of Chicago
