Jacobs is looking to add an experienced Architect to our design team in support of a multi-billion-dollar airport capital Redevelopment Program in Chicago, IL. The redevelopment will occur in the middle of an active airport and the existing terminal and concourses will remain operational while the new facility is built in place in a phased approach. Reporting into the Program Design Manager or their designee, this position will provide the opportunity to be a major contributor to the growth of one of the busiest airports in the world as part of the program management team. This position requires the individual to be based at the airport with the program management team.

Work elements will focus primarily on the field of Architecture with a focus on facilities design, design management and design analysis including:

  • Oversight and regular coordination with consultant design teams

  • Stakeholder coordination and management for assigned tasks

  • Project management of technical needs regarding architectural project/program elements

  • Provide recommendations for the technical direction of the program

  • Pre-design support including preparation of Project Definition Documents

  • Participate in design review process as needed for all program elements

  • Verify projects comply with program and code requirements

  • Support the writing of RFQ, RFP and other design services procurement documents with an architectural project focus

  • Complete site visits to evaluate and assess site architectural concerns and provide remediation recommendations

  • Support creation and update of facilities standards and specifications

  • Evaluation of design alternatives

  • Provide miscellaneous technical support as required by the program

  • Produce sketches, diagrams, exhibits and meeting materials as required for the Program

  • Prepare detailed drawings, reports, and specifications for miscellaneous design assignments as directed by the client

  • Assess potential program risks associated with materials, schedule, and costs

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture from an accredited college or university

  • 5 years of progressive experience in design or program/design management of facilities architectural components

  • Knowledge and experience in design/management and/or construction of terminals and other airport facilities

  • Must have developed the following skills: general construction knowledge, leadership, oral and written communication skills, team work, decision making, judgment, and problem solving

  • Ability to utilize computer systems as a tool to effectively manage tasks

  • Ability to be based at the airport's onsite office with the program management team.

  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Ideally you’ll also have:

  • Registration as licensed architect

  • Specific knowledge of major terminal systems and their functionality including integration with unique airport systems such as baggage handling systems, automated people movers, aircraft boarding bridges, etc. is strongly preferred
