Senior Electrical Engineer-Communications
Primary Job Responsibilities:
The Jacobs Chicago office provides the planning, design and implementation of numerous transportation related infrastructure and building projects. The
Senior Electrical Engineer would lead a team to develop the electrical and communications networking needs over a broad spectrum of transportation related projects.
It is anticipated that this candidate would have a strong core of knowledge of several of the electrical and networking skill sets required to perform the
job and be able to learn, seek out and manage other electrical skill sets, and identify future business opportunities. Design experience needs include: fiber
optic cabling, wireless networks, network design, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signal systems, and providing electrical and systems
engineering for transportation facilities. This candidate would be expected to manage projects, interact with clients, and manage electrical engineering
Typical work tasks include:
Perform calculations and evaluations in the design of solutions and systems for public infrastructure applications.
Develop plans, specifications, cost estimates and schedules for use during construction.
Design of fiber optic and wireless communications systems and associated network diagrams
Perform cable sizing, power and voltage drop calculations.
Maintains effective communication with project team members across disciplines and with the customer through all phases of project execution.
ITS / Networking field installation, configuration, and troubleshooting
10 years related experience required.
Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field, required
IL Professional Engineering License preferred
Cisco Certifications (CCENT, CCDA, CCNA) or CompTIA Network A preferred
Knowledge of fiber optic and wireless networks design, desired
Experience with intelligent transportation systems (ITS) desired
Experience with Electrical Systems for Transportation Infrastructure, preferred
Knowledge of modern data-communications networking standards associated with Ethernet, wireless, and serial communications preferred.
Experience with IL DOT, IL Tollway, Chicago DOT, INDOT, Metra, and CTA, preferred.
Valid driver’s license
Strong oral and written communications skills
Other Essential Functions:
Position is primarily based in an office environment. Some domestic work related travel, outdoor field integration and oversight will be required.
