The Urban Design and Water Resources Group is seeking a senior hydrologic and hydraulic modeling engineer to join our team and lay the foundations of a safe, healthy, and sustainable society. During our journey we will plan, inform and build the water infrastructure that solves society’s most pressing environmental and humanitarian needs.We are seeking an enthusiastic engineer to join our high-performing team in Chicago, IL. The Chicago office is a hub for Jacob’s collection system modeling practice. As part of the team in Chicago you will have the opportunity to combine your strong technical background and interest in water management issues to help address real-world wet-weather challenges. The position requires excellent technical and team collaboration skills; strong written and verbal communication skills, a strong sense of personal accountability, and aptitude for client service.

Primary work duties include:

  • Develop and apply hydrologic and hydraulic models of collection systems to address specific client needs

  • Manage large quantities of geospatial, timeseries, and tabular data in integrated, repeatable data management workflows.

  • Manage project budgets and staff to deliver high-quality and innovative work on budget and schedule

  • Complete draft deliverables related to water and wastewater master planning and hydraulic modeling with minimal supervision.

  • Possess strong experience with out-of-the-box and add-on GIS tools used for project conceptualizing and planning efforts.

  • Client coordination and communication to effectively define tasks, objectives, and milestones to develop deliverables that meet and exceed client




  • A Bachelor’s degree

  • At least 8 years of experience in conveyance or hydraulic modeling

  • Experience managing large complex data sets

  • Hydrologic modeling experience

  • A creative spirit with drive to learn and solve
