The Jacobs Chicago office provides the planning, design and implementation of numerous transportation related infrastructure and building projects. The Senior Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer would lead a team to develop the electrical and communications networking needs over a broad spectrum of transportation related projects.
It is anticipated that this candidate would have a strong core of knowledge of several of the electrical and networking skill sets required to perform the job and be able to learn, seek out and manage other electrical skill sets, and identify future business opportunities. Design experience needs include: fiber optic cabling, wireless networks, network design, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signal systems, and other transportation facilities.
Typical work tasks include:
Perform calculations and evaluations in the design of solutions and systems for public infrastructure applications.
Develop plans, specifications, cost estimates and schedules for use during construction.
Design of fiber optic and wireless communications systems and associated network diagrams
Perform cable sizing, power and voltage drop calculations.
Maintains effective communication with project team members across disciplines and with the customer through all phases of project execution.
ITS / Networking field installation and troubleshooting
At least 10 years related experience required.
Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field required
Knowledge of fiber optic and wireless networks design required
IL Professional Engineering License preferred
Experience with intelligent transportation systems (ITS) required
Cisco Certifications (CCENT, CCDA, CCNA) or CompTIA Network A preferred,
Knowledge of modern data-communications networking standards associated with Ethernet, wireless, and serial communications preferred
Experience with project management (budgets, accounting, scope) preferred
Experience with IL DOT, IL Tollway, Chicago DOT, INDOT, preferred
Valid driver’s license
Strong oral and written communications skills
Other Essential Functions:
Position is primarily based in an office environment. Some domestic work related travel, outdoor field integration and oversight will be required. Candidate should be eager to learn, willing to take on new tasks, interact with clients, and grow professionally with Jacobs.
Essential Functions: Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
