The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) contract at the NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in the aeropropulsion and space propulsion and power test facilities. We are currently seeking Research Lab Mechanic (RLM) Technician Apprentices.
The RLM Apprentice is an entry level position that will train under journeyman level technicians for a total of 8000 hours of on the job training in order to complete requirements for the state of Ohio and NASA's Journeymanship program.
The apprentice will train under journeyman level technicians for a total of 8,000 on the job training hours in order to complete the state of Ohio andNASA's Apprenticeship program.
Apprentices will be taught required technical skills to handle work assignments related to the operation and maintenance of unique research test facilities located at the NASAGlenn Research Center.
Training will include, but is not limited to: Design, fabrication, assembly, repair and troubleshooting of research and development test hardware associated with mechanical applications.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Candidates must be currently enrolled or have successfully completed a two (2) year Associate degree program in Manufacturing/Industrial Technology; Aeronautical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited Technical College.
Must be willing to complete 8,000 of on the job training as part of the requirements of the Apprenticeship program.
Candidates will be required to demonstrate competency over the course of the program in order to qualify for on-going employment.
Must be able to communicate and work well in a team environment.
Capable of following directions and utilizing time wisely for the maximum efficiency on assigned work tasks.
Must be safety conscience at all times.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Works from ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, cranes, boatswain chairs, suspended platforms or cages, etc.
- Works while bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, or in a prone position for extended time periods.
- Works in closely confined spaces.
- Lifts and carries items up to 50 pounds, sometimes up and down stairways, where lifting devices and hoists are not available.
- Pushes and pulls heavy objects.
- Ability to use hearing and vision protection and respiratory equipment.
- One eye (minimum) correctable to 20/20.
Ability to distinguish eight color panel display.
- Work indoors and out in high and low temperatures and in all types of weather conditions.
- Work in dusty, noisy, hot, high humidity, dirty, and greasy environment.
- Work in areas where there may be materials that are irritating to eyes, nose, throat, and skin while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Work with other personnel in a group that is Team Oriented.
Accept and work within established policies and procedures pertaining to company rules and regulations.
MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS
- Up to 1½ ton trucks and vehicles
- Fork lifts
- Manlifts such as JLG, Handy Herman, and Bucket truck, etc.
- Mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic hand tools
