As a Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineer in Columbus, Ohio, you’ll have the opportunity to follow projects from concept through to construction, as well as work on current and upcoming design-bid-build and design-build projects in highways, rail, water facilities, water resources, environmental, ports, and advanced facilities sectors across the Midwest region.

You will be the next member of our growing team of Ohio-based geotechnical experts, meaning you are coming in early as part of a team that our company is focused on nurturing and strategically growing in the coming years - you’ll be part of shaping our group culture and building a strong internal reputation for our geotechnical offering among project and business leaders.

Your day-to-day:

• Leading geotechnical aspects associated with the design of shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, slope stabilization measures,

• Coordinating and generating geotechnical-based specifications and preparation of data, baseline, and interpretative reports.

• Serving as an internal subject matter liaison on cross-functional teams and interfacing with clients regularly to share recommendations and analyses with key project leads.

• Support field work as needed and collaborating with subs to ensure outcomes that meet Jacobs’ high standard of quality.

• Assist with development of geotechnical scopes of work in project proposal development.

• BS in Civil or Geological Engineering

• Minimum of 5 years of geotechnical consulting experience with a focus on transportation, water, or related infrastructure projects

• Professional Engineering (PE) license in Ohio or the ability to obtain within 6 to 12 months

• Experience with ODOT projects and standards

• Experience with exploration methods, geotechnical site reconnaissance, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, and laboratory testing of soil and rock

• Knowledge of the process to design shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, embankment and cut slopes, and slope analyses and remediation

• Previous experience with preparation of technical reports, design drawings, and specifications

• Ability and willingness to visit and safely navigate construction and project sites and comply with all applicable safety codes and requirements

The right candidate may also have:

• Familiarity with computer programs for geotechnical analyses, such as SLIDE, SETTLE3D, LPILE, APILE, Shaft, FB Multipier, DeepEx, and GRLWEAP

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficiency with Microstation and/or AutoCAD

• Knowledge of today’s technical standards (AASHTO LRFD)

• Construction experience pertinent to Geotech aspects of a project

• MS with concentration in Geotechnical Engineering a plus
