Jacobs is the world’s top supplier of automotive test facilities, providing a full range of services to commercial automotive industry customers . Customers include not only the world’s major vehicle providers and other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), but also clients from the international motor sports community.

Our experience encompasses virtually every type of automotive test facility, including climatic and driveability wind tunnels; aerodynamic, acoustic, and thermodynamic wind tunnels; emissions test rooms; soak rooms; altitude chambers; engine and powertrain test cells; and electromagnetic anechoic chambers. We not only design and build these facility systems assets but also operate, maintain, and manage these facilities.

Jacobs is looking for a Fastener Test Tech for the testing lab in Dearborn, MI. This position is a good ENTRY LEVEL position for those who have knowledge of tools. We will train the right candidate.

The Fastener Test Technician primarily conducts torque to failure testing of threaded fasteners to determine assembly torque specifications.

This testing also validates engineering joint designs and may assist in the resolution of assembly plant issues. The technician works with Ford fastener engineers, design and release engineers, and other fastener test technicians. THIS IS NOT AN ENGINEER POSITION.

Position Duties

Provide fastener and joint testing including, but not limited to:

  • Assembly of components prior to testing

  • Securing of components in a vise or clamped to a table

  • Rundown of the bolt or nut using power tools for torque to failure or torque plus angle tests.

  • Interpretation of torque angle curves

  • Manual torque wrench measurements for joint relaxation

  • Writing reports from the collected test data.

Here’s what you’ll need :

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND /OR SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associates degree in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or similar hands-on automotive experience or training, Preferred.

  • Knowledge of automotive systems, parts, and assemblies.

  • Ability to use wrenches, sockets, and electric nut runners.

  • Experience in conducting tests, analyzing data, and writing reports

  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, and Word

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Self–motivated, team oriented, and able to work with others

  • US citizen or permanent residency status
