Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a lead design and engineering position on various industrial and mining projects. The candidate should be an experienced senior mechanical engineer with experience in the heavy industrial industry with emphasis in the mining industry. Responsibilities include team management, design, equipment specification, preparation of RFQ packages, coordination with equipment vendor selection, communication with equipment vendors, site layout, field inspections, field measurements, and preparation of engineering construction documents. Candidate must be highly motivated, customer focused, project oriented and work well in a team environment. Candidate should also have the ability to manage a heavy workload, travel for short periods of time, and support international mining projects. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, client interaction and organizational skills, and proficiency with modelling software and MS Office applications are required. Position will be based in Jacobs Denver offices located in Englewood, Colorado.

  • Responsible for engineering design support of small to large heavy mining projects. Development of mechanical designs for a variety of mechanical equipment, facilities, components, and systems for industrial/mining purposes.

  • Development of equipment and material bid specification including bid evaluation and technical selection.

  • Manage, plan and direct other design engineers, layout specialists, designers, and interface with other discipline engineers working on common projects.

  • Manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of complex mining and heavy industrial designs.

  • Maintain effective communication with project team members and with clients.

  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering principles, theories, concepts, and industry practices and standards with emphasis on practical application.

  • Work under minimal supervision with work reviewed for adequacy on completion through a quality management system.

  • Will provide some technical guidance to other engineers and act as mentor to less experienced design and engineering personnel.

  • Manages simultaneous projects with competing priorities in various execution phases on a wide variety of industrial processes.

  • Develop proposals and project scopes in collaboration with management, sales, project delivery, engineering and discipline representatives.

  • Facilitates project meetings to develop and review project scopes, design criteria and discipline drawings.

  • Accountable for meeting project cost and schedule requirements; evaluates and approves changes that substantially impact the scope, budget, or schedule of a project.

  • Maintains budgets and schedules forecast with assistance from project controls.

  • Works with site and corporate procurement to develop/implement a procurement strategy for each project.

Qualifications

  • 15 years of project experience required.

  • PE License is required.

  • Minimum BS in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Good understanding and experience in comminution including all methods of crushing and grinding. Familiar with comminution vendors.

  • Ability to generate equipment and operating specifications for all mining equipment.

  • Good understanding of conveyor design including high angle conveyors, cross-country conveyance, and conveyor transfer. Operations experience in conveyor loading and trouble-shooting would be beneficial.

  • Full understanding of mechanical specifications and construction drawings development and review.

  • Experience with material takeoffs, mechanical equipment lists, P&IDs, and PFDs

  • Experience in mine site processing facilities mechanical design with understanding of pressure vessels, relief systems design, pumping system design is preferred.

  • Experience and proficient with equipment layout design.

  • Experience in chute design principals and specification.

  • Familiar with 3D modeling platforms.

  • Experience in dust control; dust collection; and air control.

  • Experience with mechanical integrity and applicable codes: API, ASME, MSS, ASTM and other generally accepted governing standards.

  • MSHA/OSHA safety regulations knowledge is required.

  • Experience in developing hour estimates and controlling project budgets.

  • Experience with field/home office coordination and communications via a standard RFI system.
