Jacobs Battery Cell Manufacturing Subject Matter Expert - Hybrid/Remote (Flexible Location) in Detroit, Michigan

Our Electric Vehicle group is challenging the accepted and attempting to solve the world’s most critical problems. We support clients across the full Electric Vehicle (EV) supply chain - including battery cells, recycling, and key component materials - in designing their new facilities. Examples include multiple global battery cell, EV automotive and battery recycling facilities/gigafactories in recent years. This position’s primary focus is applying your knowledge and experience in the manufacturing of lithium battery cells (i.e. 5 to 30+ GWh capacity) to craft creative solutions for our clients, provide technical expertise and offer market insights on customer needs for new manufacturing facilities. Your expertise will guide project delivery strategies as we support clients in designing manufacturing facilities. We’re looking for experienced engineers who are excited about projects which enable the heart of our clients’ businesses. You may be an expert Process Engineer, Project Manager, Manufacturing Engineer, Equipment/Mechanical Design Engineer or other similar discipline. Your multi-discipline, highly interactive project team will establish process design basis, develop options and optimize the selected design. In this role, you’ll:

• Provide technical expertise to the engineering, project management, design teams and other groups within organization as a subject matter expect (SME) in your area(s) of expertise

• Display strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines.

• Provide leadership and market knowledge as we establish market strategies and evaluate potential opportunities.

• Provide engineering support to help resolve challenging issues requiring industry knowledge and expertise.

• Assist in project proposals by translating customer needs into an appropriate scope of work and serve as subject matter expert (SME) during proposal presentations.

• Mentor and train colleagues on current technologies, best practices and future developments in the industry.

• Provide input to the engineering team with regards to the local and industry standards, necessary deliverables, appropriate timelines, and provide feedback on deliverables quality.

• Review past and current projects to identify potential improvements and opportunities to be competitive. Continually develop internal tools to aid our engineering teams achieve consistently excellent and competitive designs.

• Participate in executive funding reviews and engineering concept reviews on behalf of our engineering teams.

• 3+ Years Experience with the design, layout, operation, commissioning and/or construction of large scale battery cell manufacturing facilities

• Leadership experience (direct or indirect) in a role as a Project Manager, Equipment/Mechanical Design Engineer, Process Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Industrial Engineer or other similar role.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial preferred. Advanced degrees in addition to relevant experience are a plus. Other degrees will be considered with appropriate experience.

• Experience in Process Design, Facility Design, Process Optimization or Operations at a large scale battery cell manufacturing facility

• Capability to effectively communicate with our clients and across multiple teams

Ideally, you’ll also have some of all of the following:

• Strongly Preferred - Spoken and written fluency in Chinese (Mandarin) or Korean

• Experience and knowledge of the EPC industry.

• Experience with manufacturing multiple cell formats (i.e. prismatic and cylindrical) and chemistries (i.e. LFP and NMC).

• Strong network with key players in the battery industry.

• Working knowledge of next-generation technologies such as sodium-ion, solid-state, lithium metal, dry coating, etc.

• Possess working knowledge of leading CAD platforms like AutoCAD and Revit.
