About the opportunity:
We are recruiting Mathematical Modelling Consultants to work in our established Radioactive Waste Disposal business on a diverse range of projects. These are likely to include hydrogeological modelling with 3D finite-element modelling software, alongside other forms of simple and complex modelling used to underpin the safety of future geological disposal facilities (GDF) and existing near-surface storage facilities.
The role offers the opportunity to apply your skills to solving real-world problems for our clients. You will join a friendly, highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary team (including mathematicians, physicists, chemists, geologists and engineers). The vacancy provides an excellent opportunity for those wishing to develop their careers in our technically and commercially challenging business.
Jacobs has a leading role in scientific, conceptual engineering and safety case development work underpinning the future management of spent nuclear fuels and nuclear materials in the UK and overseas, working for key clients across the nuclear industry.
All working is currently remote; flexible working arrangements are anticipated once a safe return to the offices can be made.
You will be involved in delivering a diverse range of desk-based consultancy projects undertaken for our clients. Key aspects of the role are listed below.
Provision of input to a range of technical areas; this is likely to include hydrogeological modelling with 3D finite-element modelling software, alongside other forms of simple and complex modelling.
Production of concise and well-written technical reports and presentation of results to clients.
Developing an understanding of the underlying requirements of our clients, and how we can meet those requirements.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
A postgraduate degree in mathematics, a physical science or engineering
Experience of mathematical modelling
Ability to manage time and priorities while working on several varied projects
Ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
Technically able, with a demonstrable track record of creative problem solving and producing high quality outputs
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including tailoring outputs to the requirements of different stakeholders
A PhD in mathematics, a physical science or engineering
Experience of scientific programming
Experience of using 3D finite-element modelling software
Experience of scripting (in Python or other languages) for data manipulation/processing
Familiarity with Linux operating systems
Knowledge of hydrogeology
Knowledge of the nuclear disposal sector
