About the Opportunity

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated candidate as a Senior/Principal Land Quality Consultant in our established Waste Management & Decommissioning business focused on land quality assessment and remediation on our client’s nuclear estate.

Our Waste Management & Decommissioning business has contracts in place and a growing order book that includes characterisation and remediation of both radiological and non-radiological contaminants on currently active or historical nuclear estate. We are looking to increase our team size to respond to current workload and anticipated further expansion of our business. We are interested in hearing from experienced land quality professionals with experience within the nuclear sector, and with experience of decommissioning, as well as the non-nuclear land quality sector.

For the right Senior/Principal Consultant candidate there are opportunities to develop into a team leader role within our organisation. This would include taking on responsibility for team management, mentoring of junior team members and business development opportunities.

We are operating under flexible working arrangements, with a mixture of office-based and home working environments. Our main office is in Harwell, Oxfordshire but with a diverse range of clients and sites, where we focus our services, across the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior/Principal Land Quality Consultant we would expect experience/knowledge in some, if not all, of the following areas:

  • Strong understanding of Part 2a

  • Experience in CSM development and Qualitative Risk Assessment

  • Appreciation of CL:AIRE CoP application

  • Experience undertaking and generic QRA assessments using SGVs and other Guideline Values and preferably experience of developing detailed QRA assessments

  • Environmental assessment in respect to controlled waters

  • Experience in non-radiological Soil as Waste Characterisation

  • Cl:aire DowCop and QP status an advantage

  • Knowledge of C665 guidance and ground gas and vapour assessment and design of protection measures.

  • Some familiarity with the following documents and application of land quality consultancy on licensed and defence sites: - Safegrounds – Good Practice Guidance for the Management of Contaminated Land on Nuclear Licensed and Defence Sites V2 2009 CIRIA W29 - Nuclear Industry Code of Practice for Routine Water Quality Monitoring Version 1, February 2015 - Guidance Document on SCOPE OF AND EXEMPTIONS FROM THE RADIOACTIVE SUBSTANCES LEGISLATION IN ENGLAND, WALES AND NORTHERN IRELAND, 2018 -

  • Experience supporting analytical laboratory audits and QA

  • Experience in the assessment and mitigation of NAPL contamination

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Environmental Science, Geoscience or other relevant MSc/PhD, preferably SiLC qualified or on the horizon

  • Strong buy-in to our and our nuclear clients’ health, safety and environment culture

  • Experience of undertaking site/field works, where required

  • Ability to identify and manage uncertainty and practical constraints in site characterisation and land quality assessments

  • An interest to explore and expand the use of new and emerging technologies in land quality assessments

  • The ability and focus to identify your own developmental and career goals and to take steps to achieve them, with support from your line manager

  • A clean UK driving licence
